Maybe if they had adequately hired over the last 10-15 years instead of deciding they didn’t need to hire more until everyone already there worked 60 hour weeks with no way to get leave, the current controllers wouldn’t be retiring the day they’re eligible due to stress.

Nope, they most definitely would be unusable. You need significant training in the specific airspace you are working in, the required procedures of that area, and that takes a lot of time. It’s purely a stunt, a soundbite.

And many of them have only been on the job for a couple years (or less), so have not had time to build up much extra cash for this. They DO NOT start at $184,000 as Duffy said, it’s actually $46,560-62,856 depending on locality. AG pay is starting pay, as gov employees it’s publicly available info.
