Man, discovery on Medium has really tanked, hasn't it? After a month of consistent posts, they've only shown *anything* of mine to *anyone* a whopping ELEVEN TIMES.

That's not 11 clicks, or 11 views, or even 11 presentations per post. That is 11 presentations *total* in 30 days.

What I need you to understand about my life is that my current artistic period is being deeply subliminally influenced by Mickey Mouse Clubhouse running on loop in the background at virtually all times.

That, and leaf blowers. 😖

Amazon is helping fund a $300 million build of a ballroom for the White House.

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

They are not the same.

Whomst among us has *not* accidentally started a war, really
DOD contractors “mistakenly” landed on a Mexican beach, declared it US property and planted “restricted area” DOD signs, triggering a tense confrontation with armed Mexican forces.

Mexico removed the signs, insisting the area is theirs.

Yet another example of total incompetence.

U.S. “contractors” planted signs declaring that a Mexican beach was U.S. territory.

LLMs, trained on millions of stolen creative works, turn out to be vulnerable to attacks written in verse.

Now that's poetic justice. 🔥

I wrote WHEN THE BLACK WIND BLOWS back in spring and put it out on submission. I targeted some *very* competitive calls, so I'm not surprised or upset it didn't get picked up. I'm just glad I can share it with you now.

more details! fun to mix solid tile colour with textures and internal lightning effects, as if the mosaic itself is a glowing world. Kept them irregular and imperfect because i wanted them to look like a handcrafted old byzantine style mosaic

psst, no one is struggling with this - we are trying to create singular things that resonate with a huge audience or resonate hugely with a specific audience. We "struggle" with how tech and VC funding has broken almost every creative economy we have. So thanks but no thanks

You're never going to be younger than you are now.

Stop being afraid to want things.

You should want things.

How do you start? Write down what you want.

Look at that list when you wake up.

Look at it again midday.

Look at it once more before you go to sleep at night.

Put it into action.

I'm going to keep saying it.

Art is not communication, it is communion, temporarily giving your senses to someone else.

It requires a trust that whether you are going to enjoy the experience or not, it is being offered to you by a person.

The EXISTENCE of AI art disrupts this, isolating us all.
One of the fundamental "magic of the internet" moments I've always cherished is finding a tiny creator who demonstrates surprising talent. A cool song with barely any views, a great new artist with a dozen followers, etc.

The thrill is gone, replaced by doubt for "unverified" art thanks to genAI.
Why am I so against generative AI in games?

Because I simply do not want my initial reaction to art to be one of suspicion and scrutiny, AI slop is fundamentally damaging my relationship to art and artistry, and I am deeply resentful that it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed.

Ah, my greatest struggle 🫠
Day 104

You have to grow confident enough to silence the noise. Not every opinion deserves access to your spirit. Your happiness, your creativity, your momentum, those are yours to protect.

You have to trust yourself more than the world.
