Administrators reportedly told the student media director that the IDS should publish special editions of the newspaper containing no news. “How do we frame that,” asked one assistant dean, “in a way that's not seen as censorship?”
Why Did Indiana University Axe Its Award-Winning Print Newspaper?
If the administration can censor the Indiana Daily Student--one of the most acclaimed student publications in the nation--then student journalism everywhere is at risk.

Edward Kravitz, a Harvard biochemist who proved GABA's inhibitory power, passed away last month. He will "be remembered for his humanity, for his social conscience and his desire to help those less fortunate than he,” says Ronald Harris-Warrick.

The Palestine Exception in Science (opinion)
A small act in recognition of Palestinian humanity during a scientific presentation should not have been met with a reprimand.

After we defeat fascism, our White House will have a 90,000 square foot department of racial, gender and economic justice. But we will rip that tacky as fuck gold out and paint rainbows 🌈.

When historians analyze this period in American history, they will conclude that the road to repression of free speech was paved with a bipartisan assault on the Palestine justice movement.

For decades, @jfrejnyc.bsky.social has shown what politics can be: courageous, collaborative, and grounded in the struggle for justice.

It was an honor to celebrate them on Wednesday night alongside my friend @bradlander.bsky.social.

Is the Wall Street Journal going to issue an apology for their headline this morning that turned out to be completely false conflating Tyler Robinson with the Transgender movement? This comment, scratched on the spent shell casing has nothing to do with being Transgender.

Hi @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social, we're friendly, we've been on each other's shows. We both agree Kirk's murder is horrific. Q: was Kirk "practicing politics in exactly the right way" when he called for me to be deported because he didn't like my Covid views on MSNBC?

Awful take by @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social.

I’m against all political violence. The assassin should be tried and imprisoned. But kirk did not “practice politics the right way”. He invited violence against LGBTQ and other folk. He doxxed faculty to silence speech.

After yesterday’s SCOTUS decision, everyone knows the answer to this question:

“Would I have maintained a cowardly silence if I had been in Germany when the Nazis began chasing, harassing and detaining people for looking or being Jewish?”

This is despite continued use of multiyear funding. My estimate is the multiple funding has blocked the awarding of ~1500 grants, had grants been funded on the usual annual basis. This includes 4-year R01s, excess 2-year R21s, and other awards.

Updating my analysis now that August data should be relatively complete.

Not great news...

The rate of investment of the appropriation is not increasing and it seems unlikely that the entire appropriation will be committed this year.
