Liverpool, politics, theatre, wine, cricket, travel, Eurovison, family, republican (in the UK sense not US) - and more. Wry observations. General disdain.
Why does my mind never equate "the early flight is cheaper and we'll get all day at our destination" with "so I'll need to set the alarm for 3.30am"...

I understand the outrage in The Times. That seems a ridiculously low salary for such a senior post.

15 years ago today I arrived on Downing Street in a cage.
I've seen off Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss and Sunak and I'm still going strong.
Only two Prime Ministers have ever done longer stints here: William Pitt the Younger and Sir Robert Walpole.
Bill and Bob - I'm coming for you...

"We have a different idea of what the American family should look like." Brilliant, as always.
Great sitting down with Brian Tyler Cohen to talk about everything from the courage we saw in Minnesota, to how Democrats can be true to our values and get stuff done, to how we’re building a community of changemakers at the Obama Foundation. youtube.com/watch?v=uI-hgSE5QIw

How the hell aren't all of the toughest sanctions *already* in place against Russia? Total failure of leadership.

I'm afraid that on first glance I missed it word "salmon" in this sub-heading.

The case for Andy Burnham as the next PM, perfectly argued.

Could Manchester be a model for the UK to kickstart growth?
With an annual growth rate of 3.1%, Manchester's economy has performed twice as well as that of the UK as a whole.

Lunch today at new London restaurant Aces Foodcraft was truly superb. Original, inventive cooking, brilliantly executed. Stunning open kitchen and great staff.

If you want a treat, I'd hugely recommend it. Easily worthy of a Michelin star (or two).

For years, my Vodafone voicemail didn't notify me when people left messages.

My new 3 voicemail does, but I don't feel the need to start checking them. If it's urgent, they'll chase me, right?

The government might make social media use illegal for under 16s, it seems.

I wonder if they've thought through the TV coverage they're going to get when thousands of 15 year olds get dragged into court.

Yvette Cooper - who I admire - would clearly have had to resign or be sacked for this were she still Home Secretary.

I wonder if she'll step down from the government anyway for such a *significant" error.

I'm convinced the commentator on the Big Air was making things up. He had no idea what was going on, but we all believed him when he said "That's a double reverse slinger with a triple tigger"...
The announcer in the skating just said "she'll only be scored a level two on her twizzle" in a very serious voice

A truly great line in the very wonderful Blue Moon:

"Total number of deaths in the Great War: 37 million. I think maybe the adjective 'great' should never precede the word 'war'."

My great-great-grandfather would agree from the cemetery in Bethune, near the Somme.

The scene between Andrew Scott and Ethan Hawke mid-way through "Blue Moon" is quite simply an acting masterclass. Just amazing.

Just read a LinkedIn article about lessons for business leaders from the Epstein files that made *no mention whatsoever of his victims*. Talk about a lack of perspective. Or integrity.
