Liverpool, politics, theatre, wine, cricket, travel, Eurovison, family, republican (in the UK sense not US) - and more. Wry observations. General disdain.
This decision doubtless comes from lawyers rather than politicians. But it's bloody stupid.

The ancient Egyptians domesticated cats to guard their grain silos from rodents because they tried domesticating hyenas first and it didn't work. Hyenas are way too aggressive and poorly-suited to domestication because both males and females have sky-high levels of testosterone...1/4

The six-year-old has ordered us to wake her for midnight. Chances of this going well? Zero!

You gave me a taste of your sashimi. And I want more. Give it up. Now.

Love our Maine Coons so much.

What a list of remarkable people.

And great to be reminded that we're rid of Tebbit and Le Pen.

My big treat to myself on my birthday - cashing in three years' worth of Waterstones points in Hatchards for a first edition of my favourite Julian Barnes.

Home from birthday stay in London. Not only did inept hotel put a feather duvet on the bed despite multiple warnings, giving me a terrible asthma attack thanks to my allergy, but it was perhaps the first birthday of my adult life to feature neither cake nor champagne. Maybe next year :-(

Ha ha ha ha Tesla.
Despite a production capacity of 250,000 units per year, the Cybertruck is currently selling at a run rate of roughly 20,000-25,000 units annually.

If Tesla isn’t building Cybertrucks, it doesn’t need 4680 cells. And if it doesn’t need 4680 cells, L&F has no one to sell its cathode material to.

Love this!
The Queen's Golden Jubilee tour came to town the day I finished my A-Levels. While walking to the pub, there were various folk lining the streets waiting for her to come past, including some who started waving their flags and cheering when they saw a large black car. It was a hearse

God honestly. Doesn’t this just sum up Reform. And their plastic patriotism.
Can’t even give a straight answer or follow the rules on their unbelievably naff merch.
So on brand.
Oh well. You sell or wear one of these, you’ve told us all we need to know about you.

Wicked 2 was very colourful and entertaining, but the plot made no sense whatsoever - probably because I fell asleep towards the end of Wicked 1 so had no idea what was going on from the start.

About time Tristram Hunt got a knighthood. Not sure many directors of UK national museums or galleries have ever had more impact on their institution than he has.

The "age-appropriate" trailers in the kid's film we're about to watch include one for a biopic of Michael Jackson.

Appropriate for him, perhaps.

Why is he still celebrated?

I love the gesture.

At the same time, I worry for all the performers and other staff who'll presumably lose a lot of their income with little notice.
Issa Rae has canceled her sold out performance at the Kennedy Center. Pulitzer Prize winner Rhiannon Giddens, Peter Wolf, Low Cut Connie, and the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C., have also canceled. Lin-Manuel Miranda has canceled the entire Kennedy Center run of Hamilton.

Matthew Syed writes that Marty "Supreme" Reisman was "an egoist...he was just utterly wrapped up in the potentialities of his own existence."

Amusingly, the article includes a photo of Syed playing table tennis, but none of Marty.

I managed to convince our six-year-old daughter that today was my 48th birthday, rather than my actual 58th.

I tried 38th but she was having none of it.

Just had a fantastic birthday dinner in Porter's Yard in the new £73m Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Covent Garden.

The food was absolutely exceptional. I chose vegetarian options, and they were superb. As was the Guinness, naturally.

The service is more Wetherspoons, but that'll improve.

Best fact ever.
Being aware of the amount of dust inherent in a book collection, publishers/printers have come up with various ways to repel or hide dust staining along the top edges. That's one of the reasons top edges on fancy books get gilded.

Any ballet experts? Just been to The Nutcracker at the Royal Opera House as a huge treat for our six-year-old daughter.

Music, dancing, costumes, auditorium all astonishing.

Sets? Dated, a little shabby, would shame any West End production. We're wondering why.

You don't know what day it is.
You're eating countless meals a day with lots of snacks in between.
You're napping throughout they day.
Either it's the time between Christmas and New Year or you're a cat.
