I do the tech marketing thing. I used to do the journalism thing. Always doing the soccer thing. Never not doing the dad thing.
Goodbye, Rocket Boy. You’ve done plenty to dismantle democracy, to say nothing of this once fine publication.

This is all so exhausting. At a certain point, you're kinda like "Just give me the blue pill and let me be."

Let’s be honest. The true scourge of our times is motion-operated sinks.

Almost makes you forget that the entire world is going to be rooting against us.

It'll never happen because money talks, b.s. walks, and FIFA is corrupt to the core. But the US should be stripped of co-hosting the World Cup and our team should be banned from participating. We live in a nation run by war criminals and should be treated as such. Full stop.

I've been lurking back in The Upside Down™️ just to check on baseball and basketball trade scuttlebutt. And I'm sad to report it's still a backwards-ass cesspool of hatred and idiocy. My mistake.

I’m a neutral for #MLSCup as I really wouldn’t mind seeing either team win. But weirdly, I don’t think Miami needs a victory to guarantee their continued existence. So maybe I’m ever-so-slightly Team ’Caps today?

So apparently I have tickets to [checks notes].... Switzerland vs. Qatar. 😑

I think we’ve all underestimated Shaq’s acting skills. How he kept a straight face when Rio Ferdinand told him to “get his hands into those balls” I’ll never know.

FIFA has always been Ground Zero for grift, obviously. But man if this whole sh*t show doesn’t drive home how dirty this all is, I’m not sure what will.

I’ve seen enough. Frank is not the guy. I don’t know what the answer is, and yes, the squad needs to be healthier and deeper. But this team is totally tuned out and these tactics are predictably dreary. Get rid of him. Just another Saturday in Spursville. 😕

Thank goodness for single-game knockouts. The way playoff soccer should be. Can we pretend three-game series never existed?

You know what impresses me? The restraint shown by every single one of these women, who have every right in the world to tell this human shit stain to go fuck himself. But then they'd be cast as "emotional" and "dramatic," right? And then probably fired. We have a LONG way to go in this country.

I’ve been a huge skeptic of this cash-grabbing super-sized World Cup, but I wouldn’t trade back scenes like this for anything. So many first-time participants and others who haven’t sniffed a World Cup in 30+ years. Soccer is about joy. Inject this into all of our veins.

We can rant all we want about how a wider World Cup field dilutes the talent on display. But it’s really hard not to share in the joy of all these nations qualifying for their first-ever World Cup. And there are surely more to come. We need these vibes.
CAPE VERDE, POPULATION 560,000, QUALIFY FOR A FIRST-EVER WORLD CUP 🇨🇻

The second-smallest nation ever to achieve that feat. Every US state has a bigger population, yet the Blue Sharks are on their way to football's big dance. Astonishing and inspiring 🦈

Trying to buy World Cup tickets. Sat in a queue two weeks ago to join a new queue that started this morning. Got through that queue and now in another queue to see what's available. This feels familiar. Can't quite put my finger on it...

A good friend of mine made the "What if our best athletes played soccer" point to me this morning and it triggered me faster than it should've. He's smart and worldly. But I realized what it was: that cliché is, to me, the epitome of Barstool/ugly American. And I'm extremely sensitive to that rn.
