I do the tech marketing thing. I used to do the journalism thing. Always doing the soccer thing. Never not doing the dad thing.
I’ve seen enough. Frank is not the guy. I don’t know what the answer is, and yes, the squad needs to be healthier and deeper. But this team is totally tuned out and these tactics are predictably dreary. Get rid of him. Just another Saturday in Spursville. 😕

Thank goodness for single-game knockouts. The way playoff soccer should be. Can we pretend three-game series never existed?

You know what impresses me? The restraint shown by every single one of these women, who have every right in the world to tell this human shit stain to go fuck himself. But then they'd be cast as "emotional" and "dramatic," right? And then probably fired. We have a LONG way to go in this country.

I’ve been a huge skeptic of this cash-grabbing super-sized World Cup, but I wouldn’t trade back scenes like this for anything. So many first-time participants and others who haven’t sniffed a World Cup in 30+ years. Soccer is about joy. Inject this into all of our veins.

We can rant all we want about how a wider World Cup field dilutes the talent on display. But it’s really hard not to share in the joy of all these nations qualifying for their first-ever World Cup. And there are surely more to come. We need these vibes.
CAPE VERDE, POPULATION 560,000, QUALIFY FOR A FIRST-EVER WORLD CUP 🇨🇻

The second-smallest nation ever to achieve that feat. Every US state has a bigger population, yet the Blue Sharks are on their way to football's big dance. Astonishing and inspiring 🦈

Trying to buy World Cup tickets. Sat in a queue two weeks ago to join a new queue that started this morning. Got through that queue and now in another queue to see what's available. This feels familiar. Can't quite put my finger on it...

A good friend of mine made the "What if our best athletes played soccer" point to me this morning and it triggered me faster than it should've. He's smart and worldly. But I realized what it was: that cliché is, to me, the epitome of Barstool/ugly American. And I'm extremely sensitive to that rn.

You're going to see a lot of performative b.s. today, manipulating and spinning the narrative away from what we're supposed to be remembering: the murder of ~3,000 Americans 24 years ago and many thousands more whose lives were forever changed. Focus on that. The rest will still be there tomorrow.

Stop saying "This isn't who we are." THIS IS EXACTLY WHO WE ARE. This is the only developed country on earth where this happens regularly and where our elected officials choose to take no action.

This is a really nice piece by the always solid @jeffrueter.bsky.social. One thing I've thought about a lot in this convo is where it went sideways for Brad Guzan. There was a time when he seemed like the clear successor to the Meola/Friedel/Keller/Howard blood line. www.nytimes.com/athletic/659...

I fully admit there is a nonzero part of me hoping for a disastrous #USMNT showing at this World Cup just so President Pedophile has one less symbolic victory lap to raise a false flag.

Levy deserves a lot of credit for turning a middling, economically irrelevant club into a global powerhouse. But he’s never been the guy for that next step. History hopefully will appreciate his impact in time. But the club needs someone else to deliver sustained on-field success. Cheers, Dan.

That’s the thing about Luis Suarez. He’ll be your favorite player for so many reasons. And then he has a nasty habit of losing his goddamned mind at the worst possible times.
