Small sums for very wealthy people and about 150,000 homes are worth over £2 million so that's hundreds of millions for the exchequer.

But bear this in mind - King Charles won't pay a penny on his many homes which are mostly worth far more than that.
what’s not to like? nice one Rachel Reeves for introducing the mansion tax ensuring the super-rich pay their way just like the rest of us 🙏💥

@darrenpjones.bsky.social please get this polling in front of Rachel Reeves, Morgan McSweaney & Keir Starmer. It should be a no brainer to follow the great Gordon Brown & *at least* do a windfall tax on wealth & the very rich. Inequality is a risk to society.

Among the reasons cited: fatigue and frustration with its hardline immigration policy.

I simply do not understand how the govt can simultaneously believe (1) they don’t have enough political capital to breach the manifesto on tax and (2) they have enough to political capital to pick an unwinnable fight with their own MPs on immigration.

It was good to hear Ed Miliband making an explicit case on #Today this morning that reducing inequality should be a core objective of economic policy.

He's much the most persuasive advocate of the government's economic strategy, & of the philosophical case for things like the workers' rights bill.
