Any court barring the public from attending preliminary hearings without an individualized, legally valid reason is Actually Violating the law. Hope members of Congress decide to show up to EOIR as well as legal observers, religious observers etc (but avoid getting arrested if you aren’t prepared!)
Update: reports today that multiple legal observers were arrested today in New York at two separate immigration courts, for allegedly “obstructing” ICE.
Not only that, apparently some immigration courts are barring the public from attending hearings.

Immigration court arrests continued across the nation yesterday (and are likely ongoing today).
Yesterday, in NYC, 30 ICE officers swarmed the immigration court, holding lists of names of people to arrest. All were dutifully attending their immigration hearings and many had pending asylum claims.

Not much surprises anymore me but I am still moderately surprised that Trump seems to think that the U.S. government doesn’t know who foreign students attending Harvard are, which is a truly idiotic thing to believe.
Trump: "Part of the problem w/ Harvard is there are about 31% of foreigners coming to Harvard...but they refuse to tell us who the people are...it shouldn't be 31%. It's too much. Bc we have Americans who want to go there...we want a list of those students...I assume with Harvard many will be bad"

I have be warning this was coming. FHEO lost a huge number of experienced staff to DRP, as did many Offices that feared RIFs or other forms of malign intent from above. We now have Field Offices across multiple departments that are essentially empty. This is the tip of the iceberg.
