In Virginia, Dems won 64 of the House districts where Kamala Harris got more than 47.5% of the vote to give them a 28 seat majority in the body. Next year, if Dems win every CD Kamala got over 47.5%, we only win a 219-216 majority. A lot more work ahead stephenclermont.substack.com/p/the-scope-...

THE HARDEST CONVERSATIONS ARE THE ONES DEMOCRACY NEEDS MOST

1 in 5 Americans has ended a relationship with a friend or family member due to political differences. 2 in 3 actively avoid political conversations with coworkers, friends, or family.

Let that sink in.

2025 Was A Referendum on Trump and 2026 Needs To Be The Same
The 2025 election was a referendum on the chaos, cruelty, and corruption that Donald Trump and his cronies have foisted on our country, and the anti-Trump voters came to the polls in droves to defeat Republican candidates from coast to coast. But as we celebrate our victories, we need to be mindful that the 2025 results do not guarantee similar successes in 2026 and 2028. Democrats will need to pursue very different strategies to win in 2026 and 2028. 2026 will be the last Trump election, and Democrats need to make in a referendum on Trump and all the bad things he does every day. 2028 will be the first post-Trump election and that will require Democrats to offer their vision of where they want to shape our country’s future. We’ll have a lot to say about 2028 in the months and years ahead. But first things first. To stop Trump, we need to win back one or both Houses of Congress in 2026. That means keeping laser-like focus on Trump so that the election next year like this year is a referendum on Trump. We can’t afford do things that remind swing voters in swing states and districts why they have too often in the past voted against Democrats and for Republicans. The Republican are well aware that for them to hold Congress in 2026 they need to refocus the voters attention to what they dislike about Democrats rather than what they dislike about Trump. That’s why within of Tuesday’s returns they were out with an ad calling Zohran Mamdani the face of the Democratic Party. Democrats need to make clear that our impressive governors — enhanced with the addition of Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherrill — are representative of the party we take to the country in 2026. Craig and I discuss all of this and more on this week’s From and Fuller. https://youtu.be/htq2Zw23da4?feature=shared

Been preaching this for years
By contrast, Democrats spend most of their money on TV ads. This failure to build capacity means that the money on failed campaigns has a net zero return on investment. Democrats could easily divert $200 million every cycle to invest in advocacy media and have plenty more than Republicans.
