I'm so happy at the dinner I made myself I could cry and it's that Everlasting Meal book again (the bagna cauda, which I probably did completely wrong but nonetheless my goodness)

They don't teach you in school that after decades of scratching around for purpose, the year of the fire horse will arrive and you and your ilk will flourish. They let it arrive as a mid-life surprise. Curious.

Frederick Wiseman showed us the world and its institutions in all their cruelty and humanity. A prolific and essential documentarian, he will be missed.

Intelligent statement by Tricia Tuttle. I'm not at Berlinale, but a plea to focus on the films is welcome. Too often, people bully artists to be some version of themselves: funders (be in an office, fill out a form!), journalists (what's your opinion!?) etc instead of each doing their jobs.

It’s amazing how far modern tech suffers from Main Character Syndrome. Everything seems to be designed, developed, and tested for one person to be doing all the talking.

What gets me about Reeves' here is why bother to be a member of a social democratic / left of centre political party if you're going to make this argument? Just pack it in and go be a libertarian or something??
Rachel Reeves: "It is not right that people who don't go to university bear the cost for others to." I don't use local leisure centres and I don't drive, so will I be made exempt for taxation that pays for all that stuff? Or is it only education we'll be going after

Grateful to a Midnight Diner for teaching me the recipe for butter rice. A dish that somehow gives comfort to my inner child even though I discovered it just a couple years ago.

This Alan Dein programme is incredible radio, 'Forged of Steel' on Archive on Radio 4 right now. Really feels like state of the art broadcasting and an incredible perspective on a generation of lives so near yet so different from anything I can imagine. Lives given to shaping the modern world.
