As we’ll all be using this more, a proper introduction: I’m a verification producer with the CBS News Confirmed team in London, by way of Ireland and Erbil and Philly and a bunch of other stops. I specialise mainly in OSINT, defence, conflict, big boats, and, increasingly, the far-right.

Sorry not sorry to beat a dead horse but if you're reporting on the shadow fleet or the Venezuela tankers or dodgy boats in general please for the love of God learn to use IMO numbers. I know they look icky in copy but sus ships change their names of purpose and IMO numbers are enduring.

Ukraine targets Russia's shadow fleet in foreign waters as sanctions fail to sink Putin's oil sales
At least three oil tankers have been hit by explosions in what appears to be a stepped up unilateral effort by Ukraine to sink Russia's sanctions-dodging oil sales.

"Ireland’s neutrality does not make it immune to hostile actions" 👀
From the website of the European Commission's representation in Ireland - a page explaining Ireland's participation in EU defence projects, added to the site December 4.
The office told me they began writing the page in September.

Ireland is military neutral, which is fine (good, even) but the Navy not being able to protect the plane of a visiting president because the boat doesn't have jamming equipment is just a bit shameful.

There's been an uptick in false flagged/shadow fleet tankers coming from Russia past Ireland's west coast. The image here is from Skylight, a vessel monitoring system. It shows four of these vessels in, or about to enter, the Irish EEZ. These ships can pose serious security and environmental issues.
