POLICE AGAINST THE MOVEMENT retells the '60s civil rights struggle through its overlooked work against police violence and the surveillance, infiltration, and retaliatory prosecutions they faced from police in return. It's a pre-history of both the Black Lives Matter and Blue Lives Matter movements.

The Friends of Wyman Park Dell get some goats to come through and chew up the overgrowth each year, so I donated to support the cause because that’s fun. If I’d known the “thank you” gift would be such a Black Phillip-inspired shirt, I’d have donated twice to live even more deliciously.

Thrilled to announce this ground-breaking new book, Area X: The Southern Reach Files! The Central agent in question is, of course, Hargraves from Absolution. The book includes some new ways of approaching storytelling, and also I hope will be satisfying in lots of other ways. More in a thread. 1/?

The players' union met with the WNBA Thursday and came away frustrated with the economic model proposed by the league.

If you're LGBTQ+ and you rely on Medicaid for your health care, I'd like to talk with you! I'm grateful for the conversations I've had so far.

I'm writing about how LGBTQ+ Americans are among those who will be disproportionately impacted by the passage of the "Big Beautiful Bill."
If you're trans and you rely on Medicaid for your health care coverage, I'd like to talk to you! I'm on Signal at @orionr.80 — always glad to talk through what it means to do an interview with a reporter and any safety concerns you may have.

Also glad to talk with LGBTQ+ folks in general here

Meredith has always been a G, but it's still exceptionally weird and very refreshing hearing from a tech exec who can see through all of this AI bullshit for what it is at its foundation: a backdoor surveillance tool.
Worth a watch:

Head of Signal, Meredith Whittaker, on so-called "agentic AI" and the difference between how it's described in the marketing and what access and control it would actually require to work as advertised.

Murders have steeply declined and the mayor calls Baltimore “the model for violence reduction.” But what does it mean that arrests for murder have largely stayed the same for two decades?

I have an absurdly specific question and am hoping my savior is here somewhere.

If you
a) have written a book
b) are left-handed

Can you please tell me what kind of pen you used to sign books? I have to sign a bunch soon and am terrified of smearing but want something bolder than ballpoint. :(

Very excited to receive the first book by @amandahess.bsky.social soon!

DC friends, she'll be at Solid State books on May 7 talking about what it feels like to be a parent in a very online world. Ty @doubledaybooks.bsky.social for publishing one of my favorite writers!

What a management disaster this was, from start to finish.

Absolutely amazing that this couldn’t be pulled off in a metro of 7.5 million people and with all that Texas money.

My thoughts are with the journalists, who did far better work than their bosses.
