They are arresting people on the streets, terminating their visas, and disappearing them for writing things they disagree with. This is where we are. Two months in. Right now. If you think they won’t begin coming after citizens soon, you are mistaken.
The next people that they come for will very likely be those who are homeless. It is time for service providers to think extremely critically about how they navigate helping people find shelter.
I am very much not looking forward to flying tomorrow and Saturday for work.

Not to put too fine of a point on it but what Trump does in DC will be replicated in LA in the run up to the Olympics and World Cup.

I cannot stress this enough. My undergraduate degrees are in English and Philosophy. My graduate degree is in English. I work in data and analytics building databases, reports, and doing data analysis.
Decades of mechanistic talk about university degrees as if they were bundles of 'skills' and 'prep' are about to be proved completely wrong (obviously). Want to get a real boost? Do History or English.

Amidst all the bullshit deciding to get back on my bike was simultaneously one of worst and best decisions that I could have made.

I am not mechanically inclined. I haven’t touched my road bike since last October because work and life have been incredibly busy. I topped off the tire sealant and went on a hour long ride. I did not charge di2 group set. 50 minutes of my ride with single speed. I am exhausted.

This time last year I was riding 50km daily five days a week. I’ve not touched my bike at all this year due to how busy work has been. My daily workload hasn’t changed at all except for having to navigate all of the changes to grants and the CoC that the Trump admin has made.

You can take this further. Many 17 year olds in the United States do not understand social categories in the United States. Our case workers undergo training on how to accurately help young people translate their identity into social prescribed and, ultimately, arbitrary social categories.
I would guess that 17 year olds in Uganda and South Africa could probably tell you about as much about the nuances of US demographic categorizations as 17 year olds in the US could tell you about social categories in Uganda or South Africa and it's weird that people apparently think otherwise

After today, I don’t want to ever hear another republican claim to be pro life or fiscally conservative. These were always highly speculative claims, but today’s spending bill eliminates the merits of these claims entirely.

This year I’ve had to travel a lot for work and it’s caused me to think a lot about how time constraints shape every aspect of my life. I am not good at many things but one thing I am exceptionally good at is estimating how much time any given task will take.
