I've created a Substack for my short fiction.

The Nightlands is free and all about creating a space for my weirder, more alternative writing that exists outside of theatre. Stories, strangeness, messages from the deep.

in light of some funding setbacks, i am now pulling out all the stops to get a new play on at the edinburgh fringe next year (the best way to get over rejection is to seek more of it) so if anyone has any leads on funding please get in touch x

Once again I keep coming back to the story of 7:84's Cheviot, the Stag, and the Black, Black Oil being denied touring funds in 1973. What followed were a series of letters and meetings that delivered a compromise figure. The most celebrated Scottish play of the last 50 years almost never happened...
Disappointing news today from the Touring Fund. Congrats to all those who managed it, very tough to get touring theatre made right now. Current system of a single annual window needs a rethink. It shouldn't be this high stakes, this kind of all or nothing.

If we want future Tom Stoppards, the sector needs to ensure today’s writers have the same chances, writes Alistair Smith 👇

Tom Stoppard’s phenomenal career in theatre was in part down to the opportunities available – something that playwrights now lack, says Alistair Smith

Brilliant combo of writer and organisations. Jack's a singular writer, exploring topics few others are tuned in to. The research opportunities this partnership offers are going to be such a boon to all!
