A presence inside the Beltway since the Kennedy administration. Proud stoic with varied interests in politics, art, American history, cinema, whiskey, and comedy. Living spontaneously without goals. So much to laugh at, so little time...
Obscure, true, but it deserves to be here. Just Once by James Ingram.

I get exhausted hearing complaints from people on the left and the right (and their media harpies) who only see the issues from a myopicly limited perspective. No one in a leadership role has a perspective sufficiently broad to effectively lead. What happened to all the statesmen?

Here’s why I loathe The Birchmere: you can arrive more than two hours before the show and yet still get a shitty seat. It’s the perfect venue for people who don’t value their time or who have plenty of it to waste.

The new @netflix.com limited series Death By Lightning is astonishingly good. Well acted, exceptionally well written, with spot-on production values and seamless CG. This show reminds us of a time when men of integrity could still be found in politics. #deathbylightning

I am wondering whether AI-generated comedy should be judged by how funny it is or should its lack of human effort detract from its success. Would a painting be just as beautiful if a robot created it? #AI #comedy

“For once one possesses happiness, duration does not make it any happier. Ah, when will the day come when you will realize that time doesn’t matter for you, and will be at peace, caring nothing for the future, completely satisfied with what you are!…(1)

@robinince.bsky.social I enjoy following your travels via BS posts but the continued absence of news on a new Christmas Compendium of Reason makes me sad. Has a stake officially been driven into its heart or is it simply resting comfortably in its box awaiting an eventual sanguinary infusion?

I’m confused. As a historically significant government structure, aren’t there layers and layers of approvals needed before anyone can legally tear down part of the Executive Mansion?

“Always remember how noble it is to complete your life before death arrives, so that you can peacefully await the rest of your time, asking for nothing more because you already have a happy life. A happy life isn’t made happier by being longer.” — Seneca

I tried to watch Who Killed The Montreal Expos? on @netfl.com but the audio was shockingly out of sync in many if not most of its compiled clips. Every other Netflix show is perfect, so what’s up with this one?!? Unwatchable.

What my friends and I were yelling at the screen 45 years ago at the Key Theater in Washington DC appears today almost verbatim as a caption track on the new Rocky Horror Picture Show 4k disk. So wild! #RHPS

I spent the last few furlough days entering my trading card collection into the Trading Card Database (TCDb) website. Let's see which person appears on the most cards in my collection…

Spending Furlough Day #8 at James Madison’s Montpelier trying yet again to renew my faith in our system of government. No better place than the home of the architect of our Constitution.

I can understand when a public person blocks those who wish to argue with them on social media, but they seem quite happy to initiate such arguments. I assume knowing that you can block anyone who disagrees with you is quite freeing.

I’m continually puzzled by how easily people choose to define themselves as this or that. It’s as if individuals see themselves as nothing more than a Starbucks drink order. I don’t know how to define myself as anything. Am I this? Well, yeah but I’m also some of that.

Spending Furlough Day #4 renewing my faith in our nation at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. A perfect reminder that our ancestors still had it much worse.

I’m listening to each National Lampoon albums in sequence starting with Radio Dinner (1972). My, how humor standards have changed in just 50 years…

My all-time favorite quote, by Epicurus:

“I’ve never tried to please the crowd; because what I know, they do not approve and what they approve, I do not know.”

Being immersed of late in all things Spinal Tap, I am reminded of the comedic genius of Christopher Guest. From his early days with the Lampoon thru Tap, roles like Princess Bride, and as director of his own drop dead funny films, he should easily be in line for a Mark Twain Prize. Easily.
