Make it SNAPpy! Paracetamol overdoses in teenagers

Paracetamol poisoning is an uncommon, but not rare, event in children. The treatment of choice is NAC. Should we be giving them the SNAP protocol?

GPs up & down the country warned Wes Streeting, Department of Health and Social Care 6w ago that forcing the implementation of online forms without safeguards was a fools errand & raise false expectations

Have now decided not to talk to @BMA_GP @doctor_katie @DavidGWrigley

In 30years I have never been this upset with the words coming out of Government

This includes a plethora of Tory Health Secretaries

I am not part of BMA leadership

I am just a GP who gives up his time freely to advocate for patients, the NHS & make sure the facts are correct

Vaccines save lives. Keep repeating the message. It’s the truth.
Vaccines against COVID-19 saved over 20 million lives in the first year alone, according to a study in Lancet Infectious Diseases. Anti vaxxers conveniently ignore such stats.

GPs PART-TIME WORKING or ARE THEY?

The data used by NHS Digital underestimates the hours GPs work is being used in error to estimate GP workload

It is based on ‘Contracted hours’
9 x 4hr 10min sessions (half days) making 37.5hrs Full Time

But that is likely to be 50-60hrs🧵

These are hard numbers to see but they are absolutely representative of how difficult things are in Emergency Departments right now, let alone what they'll be like as Winter really sets in.

We will always do our best, but our best won't be enough, not for everyone.

That is the tragedy we face.
(1st Bluesky post)

Our members are seriously worried about being able to keep patients safe this winter.

GPs work for the NHS, provide services for the NHS, are paid by the NHS for 90% of income
This is a key & important difference with private healthcare providers
They are not shareholders taking the profit, they are the workers providing the patient care

Thread for those new to BlueSky. First of all, welcome. It feels like a safer space, doesn’t it? But also perhaps a bit disorienting initially? Here’s some tips for getting your bearings.

The Budget, NI rises and GPs
Drs are divided as to whether this blow is deliberate harm or just incompetence. It's possible that the govt will find a way to compensate, but it is unlikely that this will make good the damage to trust & goodwill inflicted by this budget.
