It is the birthday of the novelist who wrote,
“Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds you plant.”
Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson was born on this day in 1850. He is best known for "The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" and "Treasure Island."

By the way, combining acetaminophen and ibuprofen is incredibly effective and some of the best pain relief you can get without a prescription. Advil makes a combo pill called Dual Action or you can buy them separately.

One of my favorite books from the last few years - The Winter Soldier by Daniel Mason. Gorgeous writing, winter survival, nurse/doctor. Not a romance, but what a story.

Veteran's Day is a good time to remember that one of the worst things about a war is the suffering that continues after its end. In 2016, I looked at four memoirs by women who dealt with the aftermath of World War Two and its victims.

I'm loving this story from a new-to-me author. Artist heroine gets brain surgery and can't recognize faces; somehow cute mayhem ensues.

I didn't like del Toro's Frankenstein. The Creature is not as gross as Bill Skarsgard's vampire in Nosferatu, so that's a plus. I found the visuals very off-putting. Blood red and bad cgi. Everything overdone and exaggerated.

The sun is the best medicine. I went on a midday hike today after walking in the dark all week, and felt the rays reviving me.

I'm not savvy with promo so I usually don't do it. I can't afford to advertise. I'm a hobbyist writer and I only do what makes me happy: writing steadily, words on the page, minding my own beeswax.

Looking for quotes to pull from Cowboy's Last Stand and I found a typo. Hero is supposed to say "I don't know." Instead he says "I." Not I ellipses. Just: "I," he said. Now I have to throw myself off a cliff, goodbye.

As 2025 draws to a close, I've read 18 new to me authors out of 80 books read! Not bad, could be better, but for a difficult year I’m pretty pleased.

Do we have any in common?

This week's movie is Tenet, which I've seen at least once, maybe twice. I remember almost nothing about it. Every time I watch, I don't understand it. But I like it anyway. It's mesmerizing and unknowable.
