GAH! My pal April was Sarah's campaign manager and they went to some effort for a low-waste, low-plastic campaign. Glad to see the hard work of Spokane door-knocking paid off.
(WA Dems didn't bother caring, and neither did WA GOP.)
Meanwhile, in Eastern WA, @sardixit.bsky.social has officially defeated Jonathan Bingle for the Spokane City Council by 129 votes with all votes counted! 🥳🎉

Dixit flipped this seat Democratic and by a larger margin than requires an automatic recount!

This sure changes up the drama of the two-stabbed lady beetle
The 'lady' in 'ladybugs' refers to the Virgin Mary.

First of all, there are over 5,000 varieties of ladybugs.

However, the first type of these beetles to be called a 'ladybug' had 7 spots which were thought to symbolize the 7 sorrows she suffered.

The Dixit-Bingle Spokane race is notable, and Dixit is less than 80 votes behind. If the Katie v. the Bully race isn't drawing all of your attention.
A turn to the left? Following national and statewide trends, progressive candidates and ballot measures in Spokane win big. Here’s where they stand as of Friday, with one race being simply too close to call:

Wait, do we think the Reign, with their amazing queen logo, has...a weather motif? Does being a homophone for rain count as a motif?
Seattle’s new hockey team opted to stick with the weather motif used by the city’s other professional women’s teams.
Seattle's new women's hockey team finally has a name

Notably, this is about where Wilson was on the first night of the primary, and she wound up winning with 52% of the vote.

Stay tuned!

would be nice if this country loudly and decisively told all the people running on blatant, horrifying racism and bigotry to get fucked over and over and over again in every place and every race

I need another book-length obituary from Jacobin. Cheney deserves it almost as well as Kissinger did.
Cheney expressed no regrets about the Iraq War, even after it plunged the U.S. into debt, killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, and destabilized Iraq so much that ISIS was able to gain a foothold.

Later in life, Cheney broke away from the GOP, but never faced accountability.

Speaking as a person who set up a little free bakery box so passersby can snag home-baked stuff: people trust their neighbors! I thought nobody would take a cookie and almost everyone does in fact take a cookie, although some occasionally ask "can I really just have one?" with big "ask mom" energy.

Idk if these are all over the city or just my neighborhood but it's my favorite campaign messaging this year.

Since I opened the little free bakery, I've become auntie to a couple dozen kids in the neighborhood. It never occurred to me that my brother had several secret families within a couple blocks of my house but CNN thinks that would be the correct take I guess.

In the final days of New York City’s mayoral race, Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani has faced pushback over a story he told about his aunt being afraid to wear her hijab while riding the subway after the September 11, 2001, attacks. https://cnn.it/432IAcr

This somehow reminded me of that Jimmy Carter "lusting in his heart" for women thing, except our precious lil candidate here is talking about Red Bull.
Does he ZYN? Does he blast darts? At the live recording of the Hell Gate Podcast last Friday, we asked Zohran Mamdani what every New Yorker wants to know: Does he have any chemical vices? Here's how he responded.

In recent years my family has given me a stack of books relating to poison. Another arrived yesterday. I enjoy them, yet I wonder if it's some kind of very long con where they're setting me up. Like how many books about poison should one food writer have before it gets extremely sketchy.

The basic-ass marketing idea of "what would you do with the advertised product" is something I don't see often enough in transit ads anywhere
I really like King County Metro's new ad campaign, centered on transit destinations, much more than Sound Transit's current campaign that paints drivers as mindless zombies.

Does Harrell want this or am I smooshing together his silly AI wall with his wasteful admiration of shot spotter tech
"An artificial intelligence system (AI) apparently mistook a high school student’s bag of Doritos for a firearm and called local police to tell them the pupil was armed." 🤨

In August I enjoyed Adventures in the Louvre by Elaine Sciolino. It confirmed why I disliked my visit while making it easy to imagine all sorts of heists. It's enormous! Tourists + security are mainly clustered in a few areas! Congratulations to the heist crew for not getting lost on the way out.

One of the many reasons I voted for @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social. He has actively shown to not care about traffic calming, even (or particularly) on the street where his 7,000 sq ft house is.

Years ago some high school volleyball coach pals got fired because one blowhard parent was absolutely certain their kid was being deprived of a full-ride volleyball scholarship and it was easier for the admins to cave.
Settle down, parents, it was not the coaching, it was the kid's mid skills.
