With Paige Harden @kph3k.bsky.social we consider the greatness and bigotry of James Watson. Watson was not just a great scientist who turned out to be a bigot in his personal life. His bigotry was rooted in misunderstanding of the very science he created. Free link when I get one.
The Paradox of James Watson
The discovery of DNA was evidence of how deeply interconnected humans are, but the late scientist saw only difference.

Today I started out the morning talking about long-read sequencing and prediction models and ended the day by showing Masters students how to take eDNA samples from a river.
How cool is my job!? 🤓 Honestly if I told three-years-ago me what I do for a living he wouldn't have believed it 😃

3 weeks ago we reveived 30 tauros in #SaksfjedWilderness! Bred to fill out the missing ecological function of the aurochs (extinct in 1627). The replacement from NL was a major team effort and a process lasting c. 18 months.
Now science begins!

Hey everybody! @drjuliawester.bsky.social and I have a new paper!

We surveyed over 800 scientists, science communicators, and science educators who use social media.

Conclusion: Scientists no longer find Twitter useful or pleasant, and many have switched to Bluesky! 🧪🌎🦑

Sharing the raw data used in meta-analyses should be mandatory in all circumstances
Max wanted a bit of a provocative talk tomorrow. So I will talk about which open science should become mandatory. For example, science funders now often require open access publication and data sharing. Which open science practices do you think should become mandatory, and under which circumstances?
At University College Dublin we are delighted to host @lakens.bsky.social from Eindhoven University of Technology. On Wed 4th of June, 12-13, C006 Health Sciences, Prof. Lakens will give a talk on open science and will discuss why it is worth improving our research practices. All welcome!
