When we finally made it to Kathmandu the traffic was as one would expect. What one might not expect is for the driver to stop in the middle of this traffic to check the front right tire. After this point I became intensely curious what might happen next.

This is K2-18b.

It’s a planet outside of our solar system, about 2 1/2 times the size of earth, orbiting a small red dwarf star.

The James Webb space telescope spent time studying this planet via spectroscopy and determined it has gases in its atmosphere that are only created through biology!

"We were supposed to have summited Kalapathar that morning. A small mountain at 18,200 feet, allowing us to catch the sunrise behind Everest. At 4:30 AM it was snowing with dense clouds, making the climb too dangerous."

Our economy is far larger than it was decades ago.

Where have most of the gains gone? To the top.

Any path forward must include a fight to restructure the economy toward more widely shared prosperity.

This isn’t a blue state vs. red state phenomenon. It’s a class phenomenon.

I can’t describe my relief when we reached the town of Manthali for our flight. Our destination was Lukla, home to the most dangerous airport in the world. Five hours in a small car, zooming on tiny roads with sheer drop cliffs, was a bit taxing.

During these times I feel the need to remind everyone…

The Void is for screaming into, while the Abyss is strictly for disappearing.

If you absolutely need to scream and disappear, I recommend the Upside Down.

One of the most fascinating facts about the ocean, is that there are whales alive today who were born before Moby Dick was written.

Some of the bowhead whales in the icy waters off of Alaska today are over 200 years old.

Lil Moose likes to interrupt me at my desk. And I let her. I just stop what I’m doing and give her every bit of attention she seeks.

This is the pleasure life can bring.
