Many pastors who have spoken against Christian Nationalism will use this coming Christ the King Sunday to remind people of the dangers of that ideology.

While that seems like a natural implication, a Christian Nationalist politician just got the Michigan House to recognize the liturgical day.
Christ the Christian Nationalist Sunday?
On Thursday, the Michigan House of Representatives passed a resolution to officially declare Nov. 23 as “Christ the King Sunday” in the Mitten State.

The Michigan House of Representatives passed a resolution to officially declare Nov. 23 as "Christ the King Sunday." This #ChristianNationalist move is actually part of a larger theological & political tension with statements about Christ as King:

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

“Because as that modern prophet Bob Dylan put it, ‘If God’s on our side, he’ll stop the next war.’”
On a day like today, we honor those who went before us. We lament the lives lost and taken in violent wars. We cherish the freedoms we have today. We work to heal those wounded by battles — physically, psychologically, and spiritually.

But we must also pray and work for peace.
Ending Wars
We called it the “war to end all wars.” Until a bigger one came.

Trump pardoned people who tried to overturn his 2020 election loss in state legislatures. One was Jenna Ellis, now a Christian radio host. She attacked @wordandway.bsky.social as a "bad actor" for reporting on her (publicwitness.wordandway.org/p/radio-liar). I don't put much stock in her assessment!

Federal judge rules against ICE/Trump admin for shooting & gassing clergy (& other protesters). But this doesn't cover Illinois State Police who've also done it (as I reported Tuesday: publicwitness.wordandway.org/p/baptist-pa...). Trump bound by injunction but Pritzker still free to shoot clergy.
Ellis rules that the Trump administration impermissibly prevented the free exercise of religion, in violation of the First Amendment.
Those engaged in prayer have been shot, without warning, with pepper balls and tear gas, Ellis says.
