My time machine isn't working so I can't 100% confirm, but if Obama had named someone who actually excited people, rather than putting them to sleep, then Rs blocking that person could have pissed off potential voters and maybe made a difference in the election

He can't explain what he meant by "erasure of white culture" b/c what he actually means is white people are superior to non-white (and Latino) people and should hold all the political and cultural and economic power
Trump nominated a legit white nationalist to a top post at the State Department. I asked him some basic questions about his belief in the “erasure of white culture”. Watch this embarrassing, fumbling answer. Like he has never before been asked to explain his views.

The Trump administration is forcing child rape victims to give birth in captivity in Texas. I sound like an insane person but that is actually what this news story says
They aren't forced birthers; they're just jailing people — some of them sexual-assault survivors as young as 13 — in Texas during their pregnancies, where they'll be prevented from accessing abortion.
Trump administration is sending pregnant migrant girls to South Texas shelter flagged as medically inadequate
Government sources and advocates for the children worry the goal is to concentrate them in Texas, where abortion is banned.

This Day in Labor History: February 11, 1937. The Flint Sit-Down strike ended after General Motors recognized the United Auto Workers at the bargaining agent for GM employees. This legitimized the CIO, ushering in the nation’s great period of industrial unionism. But soon, sit-downs would be illegal

Many people can understand cisgender teens getting gender affirming surgery. Think of a a 16 year old girl who can’t run comfortably bc her breasts are too big, or a boy with enlarged breasts who is too embarrassed to go out without a sweatshirt in summer. Just grant trans kids the same humanity
If you're the mom or dad of a son who is isolated and unable to engage with peers because he's so self conscious about having breasts you deserve at least the option to consider whether surgery might be the thing he needs.

Heartbreaking and infuriating letters from detained children
1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵
