I know we are all feeling a particular way about the government removing photos of non-white, non-male leaders from their buildings. Here are images from my rural queer joy exhibitions; we put up big photos of the gays™️ in Wyoming. My book under review is about the value of art for communication 1/🧵
What I dont understand is why billionaires care so much about policies that would tax them more. Like genuinely! Musk could donate 90% of his wealth and still be one of the single richest people on earth. It is literally nonsense levels of wealth.

I want Donald Trump to crawl into a dusty crawl space to figure out what's leaking and live in a poorly insulated house and have to go to work and take care of kids and cook your own food. He's never lived 1 day in reality.

It's really giving, "how much could a banana possibly cost, ten dollars?" Multi millionaires and billionaires shouldn't be allowed to hold political office because they don't live in reality and are isolated from real American communities.
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

I started taking notes in my phone notes app and my phone broke and I thought they all went to the cloud and wasn't bothered.
Chat. None of them were in the cloud.
Have better field notes etiquette than I. Spent hours today trying to piece through what I am missing.

For my first piece back from vacation, I blogged about the people who moved from Texas to Russia to escape gay people and then found out living in Russia kind of sucks:

They left Texas for Russia to escape 'LGBT indoctrination.' Turns out, it sucks.
Their Texas towns had too much "DEI" and "LGBT indoctrination." So they moved to Russia and became influencers.

Watson is like so many "tech bros" who have come after - believing their intelligence is a mark of genetic superiority and cruelty toward others is warranted because they are "genetically inferior." E.g. Musk believes he should be a trillionaire b/c poor people are dumb & don't deserve anything.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.
Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."
Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Counting Race: How the Census Measures Identity and What Americans Think About It
How the U.S. government measures race has changed substantially since censuses began in 1790. Today, Americans differ on whether the government should ask about race.

My two cents is that at the end of the day, after everything, Senate Democrats identify more with Senate Republicans, and ultimately with Donald Trump, than they will ever identify with you and me

That the Democrats aren't still wailing about Elon Musk's murderous DOGE reign kind of illustrates how much fealty to immense wealth is the one truly bipartisan position in Washington.

Shutdowns should trigger special elections
Our neighbors are hungry. We saw that enhanced child tax credits could reduce food insecurity, & now we know that food insecurity rose when it was allowed to lapse. And SNAP has always been "supplemental"- that's the S in SNAP.
The status quo was already one where hunger was a persistent reality.
The status quo was already one where hunger was a persistent reality.
I still think that the pain of "gov't shutdowns" should be shared by those responsible for negotiating.
I also think that true democracies would not allow core state functions to grind to a halt over budget reconciliations because core functions should be funded from a separate pot.

Republicans complaining that government money is going to "private health insurance" is going to yeet me into orbit. Then let Americans opt-in to Medicare! Let people on a national health insurance plan! Oh not like that? You meant working people should shoulder the burden or go without? Got it.

See Crime and Punishment read very sane, very stable to me.
Somebody said to me recently "we didn't have all these mental health problems in the past". You only have to open a Dickens novel to see what nonsense that is.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.
We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.
We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.
