Please be kind to retail workers. It can be a stressful time of year, but that's no excuse to treat us as subhuman.

Are we distracted? We're trying to help five people at once. Can't locate anyone? Consider that we may all be helping others, and don't shout abuse at the next one of us you see.
it is that time of year for my annual speech. please be kind to retail workers. they are doing the best they can for very little pay under trying circumstances. working retail during the holidays is hard and exhausting. they are working long hours. be kind

"Charlie is also not one for costumes, but I've always liked this picture of him. He helps me as an editor by reminding me to stay curious!"

Update: I am now closed for bookings for 2024.

I have accepted a full-time freelance contract, so my editorial services are on hold for a few months. That said, I will consider projects for spring 2025 and beyond. Query at jenniferdinsmoreeditorial.com

Scenes from the bookstore:

A woman couldn't find a book. She gave me a high five & called me a rockstar when I found it.

I was cashing out a woman when she said, "You're so pretty! Like a mermaid! Like Ariel" She walked back through the store later & called out "Have a wonderful night, Ariel!"

treasurers ---> treasures
The first refers to the people who count the monetary worth of treasure (valuables), the second refers to the treasure found. A typo the eye can easily skip over, but I think you'd be disappointed if you went hunting for gems and found a group of accountants instead!

Every time I even *think* about not checking the spelling of what feels like the thousandth name during a proof, inevitably the next name is spelled incorrectly. So, evergreen reminder for copyeditors and proofreaders: Always, always, always check names!

Happy Pride! I'm excited this is the month I start a copyedit on a sweet (and steamy!) gay romance novella. I've worked with this client before, and I can't wait to fall in love with these characters and their path to happy ever after!

Posted on the hellsite, but this is where the writers are now, right? We're in our last month of submissions and have received fewer subs than our two previous sub periods, despite now having a solid track record of quality award winning work. We'd love to see more subs from BIPOC writers. 1/5
