Truly vindictive ethnic cleansing
Trump Admin planning a rule to re-decide whether *every* refugee who entered under Biden meets their criteria for a refugee. That’s 230,000 people! And no appeals!

DHS is abusing its authority to shut down ICE-watching accounts.

Reporting on public ICE activity is protected by the First Amendment. It’s also something journalists do routinely.

Senator Wyden is right to call out this attack on the First Amendment.
Wyden Blasts Kristi Noem for Abusing Subpoena Power to Unmask ICE Watcher
“DHS apparently is trying to expose an individual’s identity in order to chill criticism of the Trump Administration’s immigration policies.”

DOGE was created for data theft and infrastructure dismantling and it wildly succeeded on both counts within the first few weeks of its existence. It will take a generation to rebuild what it destroyed and the breach of data is unprecedented.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

the takeaway from the Zohran Trump meeting is that Trump is a gullible fool who will temporarily bend to the last charismatic person he talked to.

Zohran played him perfectly but that doesn’t mean Trump is good now. He’ll go back to fascism tomorrow morning after he talks to Stephen Miller

I think this should get more media attention, but it won't. People are just going to find out the hard way.

The Trump Admin will fire you for having a Pride flag on your desk but downplays & normalizes swastikas & nooses?

Over 400,000 Americans died fighting Nazism. Hundreds of thousands died fighting slavery & Jim Crow.

This is a slap in the face to every American who died to defeat bigoted ideologies.
U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify swastikas, nooses as hate symbols
The military service, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, has drafted a new policy that classifies such items “potentially divisive.”

It's incredibly hard to fight hunger when you have a President that's actively taking food away from kids, seniors, and working families.

This is what cruelty looks like.
SNAP is back, but millions of Americans could lose benefits due to new restrictions
Just as SNAP benefits were reinstated for millions of Americans following the reopening of the federal government, many are now set to permanently lose them.

This is how you destroy science and research in the country
The administration is building a legal pathway for ad hoc grant terminations:

"if the agency determines that the award no longer effectuates the program goals or agency priorities"

Converting multiyear grants to 'at whim' coin flips will undermine the stability & leadership of American science.
Update on a significant development NIH grant terms.

On 10/1, a change to grant making regs went into effect that gives NIH more power to terminate grants for policy reasons.

But to use this power, new grant terms must include specific language. See @aniloza.bsky.social w/ the story from July.

That calculation for the sake of holding onto political power involves people getting very sick & many dying when they otherwise wouldn't.

When someone is using fear, outrage, & disgust to pressure or motivate you, stop and think about what is motivating them. It is not your child's wellbeing...
Vilifying vaccines (despite all evidence to the contrary) is a calculated move for MAGA.

Because one of the quickest ways to undermine political solidarity among women is to pit them against each other in a fight over who's the "better mom."

People in my state, which has had a GOP majority in senate since 1996 election & in house since 1976 election, plus a trifecta since 1992 (control of house, senate, and governor’s office) also routinely lament how we got here and wonder why there’s so much corruption in state government.
I wonder who has been in charge of the House for the last 3 years?

media coverage of this is already as pathetic as you might expect, usually failing to mention:

the FCC has no authority over the UK's BBC

the scandal was created by right wing media

the year-old BBC edits fall outside limits of UK defamation law

PBC, NPR never aired the documentary
Trump's censor in chief at the FCC, Brendan Carr, just sent a letter to the heads of BBC, NPR and PBS informing them he's launching a "news distortion" probe into the BBC's editing of a documentary on Trump's Jan. 6 activities.

Here it is:

The framers of the Constitution certainly imagined just that.
Members of the military take an oath to defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic, and to obey the orders of the president too.

I guess they never imagined the president could present the threat to the Constitution, but here we are.

It’s a systemic failure.
