People living under fascism didn’t survive by giving up joy—they protected it.

They held onto the things fascism tried to erase: art, friendship, jokes, rituals, language, memory.

Not as escapism but as resistance. As proof they were still human.

Joy isn’t frivolous under fascism. It’s strategic.

There's a lot to this, I think. American political journalists are all raised up in heroic Woodward and Bernstein fantasies. It leads to a particularly embarrassing kind of juvenile cynicism and performative grandstanding. And it meshes neatly, almost automatically, with their conservative biases.
Here's the thing, though: that situation, in which Dems are united & doing well while Republicans are a bunch of authoritarian rejects, is *profoundly uncomfortable for the US press*. In their minds, when a Dem is in office, you shit on the Dem. That's how you prove you are "tough" & "independent."

In a new executive order, Trump has targeted the federal agency charged with distributing congressionally approved funds to state libraries and to library, museum, and archives program grant recipients.

Hey, everyone. Let's share Rose's website as far and often as possible. Her name was scrubbed from NASA's website thanks to orders to erase women in STEM. Rose fought through poverty and homelessness, and every time I look at the moon, I think of her.

When you look at Donald Trump or Elon Musk, you’re not seeing something new. You’re seeing something that’s very old.

Just another power-hungry politician and a rich, elite figure seeking to hoard power at the expense of real American families.

Convo with my friend from Hungary tonight who left after Orban’s election.

She said “your head will spin with all the wild stuff they try to pull, new things every day, but don’t take your eyes off the money. It’s all about the money, and what they’re stealing, and for whom.”

This is great post Charlotte Clymer. I am reposting and I hope every single person on Bsky reposts and reposts and reposts. WE need to light a fire under our DEMs in Congress. Action is needed to save US Democracy & that action is needed NOW.

I prefer not to bring politics into this account, but it's critical that US citizens make noise about this situation. So I offer a suggestion about what you can do on Monday morning, based on working on the periphery of Congress years ago.🧵
