Passionate about local government, municipal governance, Chicago blues, and the Oxford comma. Слава Україні!
I don’t know which is worse: the fact that Premier Smith has put any thought into a preferred title, or the fact that she’s saying it out loud?

I can do little to stop the madness occurring in the US but I sure as hell stop it from ever happening here!

At this meeting, Dennis Modry claimed that Premier Danielle Smith said she prefers the title 'Prime Minister' over 'President,' in a discussion about her possible leadership in an independent Alberta. 1/5

Here it is, in black and white:

“[M]y view aligns with the Alberta government, which is the hope for a sovereign Alberta within a United Canada.” - MLA Neudorf (Leth East)

This is a clear signal of Premier Smith’s alliance and allegiance in the face of a challenge to Canadian sovereignty.

It is not cosplay; it is a mentorship.

We need a pro-Canada leaders, not quislings.

Alberta separatism isn’t about independence. It’s about becoming the 51’st state. Trump’s eyeing Alberta. Separatists are helping him.

Canada Lives Because…

I disagree. Canada DOES exist because of the US:

They invaded in 1812 (“a mere matter of marching”) but we repelled them.

They tried to undermine our governments during our Rebellions in 1837.

They tried incursions into the prairies, the impetus for the NWMP.

#WeAreCanada because of the US.

23% of Americans want their State to separate from the USA. Alberta is polling at 19% wanting to separate. It's less separatist than: Alaska, Hawaii, Washington Montana, Idaho, California, Nevada, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Arkansas, Indiana, New York.......

A new affidavit by a national security expert…

Is sounding the alarm that the separatist petition is not only extremely vulnerable to foreign interference from the US…

“It is, without resorting to a crystal ball, foreseeable”

Exactly this.

As Justin goes on to say in his thread, we are very much at the "so what?" moment for this rhetoric.
Carney has spent the past year subtweeting Trump.

At a certain point, these words mean nothing if he won't actually come out and say what he's criticizing.
"If great powers abandon even the pretense of rules & values for the unhindered pursuit of their power & interest, the gains from transactionalism will become harder to replicate" -- Carney's speech at Davos is an extended criticism of the damage Trump is doing (though he's not mentioning his name)

Here's the full speech. It is a dinger. Glad the PM is using an international stage, but all Canadians need to hear it. We're in this thing together.

Canadians continue to turn the words #ElbowsUp into action.

If PM Carney’s speech at #Davos is not actioned, we - Canadians - are on our own.

Well, he DOES have a point. I mean it’s not like a boat randomly landed on the shores of North America 534 years ago, and all the land was claimed with no written documen… oh. Wait.

Sadly, each Recall that fails will embolden the Premier to believe that people support what she’s doing. This will be her new “mandate” claim.

Hold on tight!

All these recall initiatives were already when launched unlikely to be successful. The fact that so many though were launched should be pause for everyone in government.

Like Ottawa, municipalities across Canada face aging water infrastructure and a critical renewal challenge they can’t tackle alone. Without significant long-term new investment in local infrastructure, Canada can’t deliver the houses and services communities need.
