This isn't mine, and I can't definitively find the original source. But I love this little bit of wisdom:

"If you're a fifteen-minute walk from a coffee shop, but the server there has to drive an hour to get to work, you don't live in a walkable city. You live in a theme park."
For all the fearmongering about capital flight from New York City, there’s an exodus few want to talk about: working people.

Sky-high rents and outrageous child care costs are already pushing families out of the city they keep running.

That’s what we have to change.

Longstanding method of pain prevention: don't mess with Philly.

Others may have pointed this out already, but Mark Carney wasn't the first to bring up Thucydides with regard to Trump. Carney got a lot of props for the learned two-and-a-half-thousand-year-old reference, but he got it from somewhere. Here's Dan Gardner on the subject from December 2024.
How Canada Should Respond to Trump
Heed the lesson of Thucydides: Only brutality can deter brutal men.

If someone tried to get a job on my comms team with a letter like this...I'd hire them on the spot!
One of the best job applications ever written came from the hands of Robert Pirosh in 1934.

MGM loved it, took him on and he went on to became an Oscar-winning screenwriter.

When a picture is worth a thousand words.
If I had to chose one photo to sum up the disastrous shoot that was -

THE MISFITS (1961)

- it would probably be this one of Arthur Miller sat next to an empty chair meant for his errant (troubled & difficult during the shoot) and soon to be ex-wife Marilyn Monroe.

I just love mid-century modern design. Privileged to be the current custodian of a one-off 1964 architectural gem. Took real effort to make it reflect the original era.
But this takes 'cast in amber' to a new level.
Dave Brubeck's 1960's Connecticut home was as cool as his music.

Good to see @drmarkbourrie.bsky.social getting recognition.
During my too-brief stint in the Parliamentary Press Gallery (a lifetime ago), I noticed its caste structure. A few stars, some egos, duds too, many diggers, and others just underrated. From my POV, he was among that last group. No more. 👏
Mark Bourrie’s Ripper takes Poilievre seriously. Instead of focusing on his smarm and snark, his thin skin and casual cruelty, Bourrie composed an urgent narrative about creeping right-wing authoritarianism.

Reminds me of US Marines buying my work team a round when we were on a business trip to Washington about 20 years ago. They remembered. And appreciated.

If any Americans recall now, it's because of that crappy movie from the truth-shading Ben Affleck.
Still burns.

Does this mean ripping up the east bank of the Rideau Canal to push high-speed tracks downtown as it was in the days of steam trains in Ottawa?
Surely, it's a non-starter.
Besides, who could possibly trust advice on rail from anyone at #OttCity? LRT fiasco, anyone?
