Interesting use of technology, but maybe don't build something that specifically is targeted at and exploits children and then brag about how addictive it is?

Will Arnett was on Conan and told a story about how Conan dealt with the death of his parents by accusing Jason Bateman of killing them. It’s so funny.

In the last year, NYTimes has sent an average of 5.1 "breaking news" obituaries per month as either push notifications or emails.

By rough count, 80% of these people were retired or no longer in the public eye. Over 50% were over 80 years old.

Shocked that Trump is a "correlation-is-causation" guy.
Trump: There's a rumor and I don't know if it's so or not—that Cuba, they don't have tylenol because they don't have the money for tylenol, and they have virtually no autism

It’s ironic that Nassau County Exec Bruce Blakeman — who fought relentlessly to ban people from wearing masks — is now pushing to allow police officers to wear a mask whenever they please.

So, a masked police officer could legally arrest someone…for wearing a mask. The hypocrisy is astounding.
Blakeman to allow Nassau police to wear face masks for 'specific investigations,' replicating ICE practice
He signed the order citing protesters targeting police or ICE agents wearing masks.

There needs to be a screen time limit that slowly makes an app worse and worse until you don't want to use it anymore.

It should have a cool down period so like 8 hours later or whatever Instagram would be a bit better, and 24 hours later it'd be like new

Do you want to know why the US has led nearly every major technological change for 40 years?

It's because of STEM immigrants. They learn here. They stay here. They build here. They create jobs and world class companies here.
OPT is the program that allows foreign students graduating with STEM degrees stay and work for up to three years. Because of the oversubscribed H-1B lottery, OPT is one of the main ways that foreign students manage to transition to jobs in the US.

Ending it would destroy a major STEM pipeline.
They're terminating OPT.

Today the nominee to head USCIS stated directly: he will end Optional Practical Training, the single largest channel for high-skill immigrants to work in the US.

6 weeks ago I warned about this & summarized the research on impacts of this drastic action—> @piie.com

Jesus Christ. You can't say "It's contested." You can't say "Agree to disagree." You can't say "Let's move on." You have to say, "Mr. President, that is a lie." If it means he never talks to you again or yells at your boss, THAT'S FINE. What have you lost? More "opportunities" like this one?
This exchange is so very telling.

Trump repeatedly claims the photoshopped MS-13 on Kilmar Abrego Garcia's knuckles is real, Terry Moran keeps telling him it isn't, prompting Trump to say this:

"I never heard of you. I picked you. You’re not being very nice. He had MS-13 tattooed... Just say yes!"

Good morning. A reminder that historically when the US has wanted to punish other countries, it imposed sanctions on them, cutting their people off from global trade, hoping to create enough economic havoc that they rein in their leaders.

Trump has imposed economic sanctions on the American people.

This thread is great.

There's also a high chance the people in charge of this don't know COBOL and are instead dumping the code into Claude to get an understanding of what it does. This is IT malpractice
So, the DOGE kids intend to rewrite the social-security administration's COBOL code-base!

and they want to do it ...

... in *a few months*

I did a huge dive into COBOL a few years ago (www.wealthsimple.com/en-ca/magazi...) ...

... so let me explain why DOGE is *way* over its skis here
