I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

If there's a "Top Five Most Annoying Things University Colleagues Do", this is surely on it:

"Course assignment: Interview an expert at [your university] about the topic you have chosen to research."

Sigh... It's enough of a challenge to stay above water up with our own students

I think a good strategy for your non-leftist social media presence (ie everywhere but here) is to give this photo - the remains of Danish soldiers returning in coffins after being killed in America's war in Afghanistan - as wide an audience as possible. Remind people who we're betraying

Is it a good idea to host a major event like the FIFA World Cup in a country whose secret state police hunt down innocent people, lock them in cages, or execute them in the street?

I got to know Mark back in grad school. He was a couple of years ahead of me, and started off as an aspiring Sovietologist, but quickly pivoted to his real passion, American electoral politics. He was brilliant, funny, warm, and engaging from the very start. I will miss him..
