(Ana)baptist pastor of a small-town rural Church. Love God, Love people. This sums up the law and the prophets.
Today I am making corned beef hash and eggs in the oven. I hope this works.

If you want to write a message to the President of the SBC over his defending evil in a Cities Church Pastor overseeing the horrific abuses of ICE in Minnesota, you can do so here.

After seeing what has happened in the wake of the revelation that one of the pastors at Cities Church is in charge of ice operations in Minnesota, and after witnessing the cowardly and corrupt response from the SBC leadership, all I can say is that the SBC deserves whatever God does to it.

Christ is risen,
Christ will come again.

This is how you know Trump is no master of economic and political manipulation.

If he had waited until right now in this moment to threaten tariffs as a tool to get Greenland, it would probably at least get him some serious concessions, though I doubt anything short of outright military force…

The fact that ICE had asked multiple people in Minnesota who are filming them if they have learned their lesson from the killing of Renee Good makes one thing clear

They believe she was shot for filming ICE. They wouldn’t be using it as a threat if they thought she was shot for trying to kill Ross

I had an assignment to choose one event in my Church History Semester 1 class in Seminary to write a 10 page paper on. I chose the Fourth Crusade. It was absolutely brutal. It was so bad that one of the worst popes in history excommunicated the crusaders for doing it. At least, until they…
“but against other christians?!” bröther let me tell you about the early 13th century and the Fourth Crusade and its chaser, the Albigensian Crusade

anyway I gotta go make dinner, history is cool, read CHIVALRY (Keen) and OATHBREAKERS (Gabriele/Perry) they both cook. Peace!

When I was a kid, well, teenager, if your parents got mad because they saw a Harry Potter book in your bag, it meant your parents were Evangelical Fundamentalists, or Mainline Protestants that bought into the Satanic Panic Hype.

And God help you if they found you playing D&D.
Without revealing your actual age, what's something you remember that if you told a younger person they wouldn't understand?

This is the left’s equivalent of “it’s just a few mean tweets, who cares?”

There are a lot more problems on the left than a historian getting a few minor facts wrong. I’m much more concerned with those on the left calling for concentration camps of their own once the left is back in power.
Donald Trump's attack on vaccinations puts my immunologically compromised toddler at risk for several life-threatening diseases. But I also found some inaccuracies on Heather Cox Richardson's Substack. I have never felt more politically homeless.

Shepherds were people who lived on the margins of society in the ancient near east.

God has always been among the people of the margins. It’s not a coincidence he chose them to witness the baby Jesus.

I spent hours last night shelling peanuts so my wife could make white chocolate covered peanut clusters.

It was worth it.

Advent comes to a close. A reminder that all periods of waiting have their end. All twilights eventually give way to the dawn. Don’t be so quick to move on from periods of waiting. But don’t cling to them so tightly you forget what you were waiting for.

A couple weeks ago I asked if you could pray for my best friend's daughter. It's been a terrible daze since we found out about her brain tumor. Of your charity, please consider donating anything you can and, if nothing else, please share this.

Lord have mercy...

I don’t know if I’ll ever get over the irony of a Unitarian Universalist being the author of the most pro-war Christian hymn ever written in the United States.

At the place where morning gathers,
You can look sometimes forever til you see,
What time may never know
, what time may never know.

How the Lord takes by its corners,
This whole world and shakes us free,
To run wild with the hope, run wild with the hope.

We have a tendency to rewrite history to minimize the bad things our ancestors did in the past. This thread points that out rather well I think.

An easy way to save money if you use a lot of canned chicken and have a deep freeze and a stock pot.

Buy chicken breasts in bulk. Boil them until they are tender and chop them up. Put them in freezer bags and pop them into the deep freeze.

You can save even more if you are willing to eat dark meat

I’m revising my opinion of Faramir taking the ring to Osgiliath in the movies as opposed to the books.

When you consider the depths of the changes Peter Jackson made to Denethor, it makes more sense for Movie Faramir to try to win his father’s approval by bringing him the ring.
