NPCs in Metroid is not the norm, but it's been so long since the last Prime, and there's going to be so many new players who aren't familiar.
I love the quiet, stoic nature of Samus and the lonely atmosphere of Metroid, but I definitely get the need to shake things up to draw in new players.

Genuinely do not understand why everyone is so hot about game key cards. Is it an ownership/preservation thing? Because if so there are way bigger problems than the key cards.

As someone who has loved Bond films all his life I can assure you no one gives a shit about the continuity. It was cool for the Craig-era films to be so close knit, but they're the outliers, not the norm.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

If the voice actors were paid and gave informed consent to use their voices like this, then that's great, but it's the slipperiest slope and a godawful precedent. Where do those voices get used now? Who gets to use them in the future? What's the next company's contract going to look like?
For Arc Raiders to ride the wave of human sociability all the way to the bank, while also being so contemptuous of the thing that makes us social animals in its own workflow demonstrates a lack of artistic integrity that I find impossible to ignore.
