As we March towards 2025, I have never felt as depressed about the prospects for #SEND. This wasnt on my bingo card for a Labour government. It’s exhausting.

Throughout this year, public awareness of the Safety Valve scheme, and pressure to end it, has increased. Govt have now confirmed there will be no more agreements. It’s a small step but an important one. More here:

A new government white paper has promised a “fundamentally different” approach to employment support, including “tackling ill health as the biggest driver of inactivity”, but it has left critical questions unanswered about Labour’s plans for disability benefits.

SEND Advocacy is in a bad state. Parents and Carers are receiving poor services, then are threatened when they share their experiences.

So we have created a space to help you find a good advocate.

Yup, I’ve been one of the statistics!
“Women are getting screwed.”
Glad someone is looking at this impact. Trying to juggle work and two disabled kids is already hard (where are the accessible holiday clubs?!) but if your child can’t access school, forget it. Aren’t we meant to be “getting people back to work”?

I’m another woman who gave up her career over 24 years to support my #disabled child, leading 2 supporting my fellow #parentcarers for over a decade & half I categorically say this number is so much higher & also those who have taken a different work path to allow for caring responsibilities!
Only 4 in 10 women gave quit their jobs to look after their #disabled child? After supporting #ParentCarers for the past few years and being one of those statistics, I’d guess the figures are much higher!

And in other news: rain is wet.

Three of my relatives rely on social care. One day, maybe someone will put as much effort into acting on what we already know instead of only hand wringing and making sympathetic noises. Even empathy would be a good start.
