No. Jayce in prison would not harden into a feral badass. If he survives the severe depressive episode, then he is absolutely using his wit, people pleasing tendencies, and big wet eyes to ingratiate himself with someone powerful to keep himself safe and left alone. Or be the quirky fix it guy.

Jayce actually had to be convinced to leave because he felt like he deserved it for a kid dying and Viktor's stipulation for helping him is that they will continue his research. Eventually he concedes, knowing he will die if he stays, and manages to fall in love with magic again through Viktor.
