Or: Classical right-wing appropriation of the strategy of détournement. Mixed with... correct assessments of some of the affective content of the filmic material (character focalization, angles, music, atmosphere, un-intention othering etc.).
Obviously not the most important thing here, but the fascist right's misreading of American cinema continues apace.

teachers!

excited to share a new website at this late date of Aug 15 to try to help us collectively prepare for back to school in the interpretative humanities classroom assaulted by the AI grift, so we don't have to go it alone.

take a look, share, + most importantly: CONTRIBUTE

Bad all around. I switched to Tidal. Better sound too
Honestly guys if you're still paying for Spotify it's time to move on. You're literally paying for AI warfare:

When I discovered Twin Peaks & Blue Velvet at age 15-16, he became the first director I really admired. Incidentally, my latest BlueRay purchase, just the other week, was Mulholland Drive (Criterion version). Thanks for the work David Lynch.

Interesting read.
I wrote a review of A COMPLETE UNKNOWN: the brand new Bob Dylan bio pic. And I guarantee you it is totally unlike any other critique of the film that you are ever going to run in to. merrillmarkoe.substack.com/p/a-complete...

I am collecting examples of the most thoughtful writing about generative AI published in 2024. What’s yours? They can be insightful for commentary, smart critique, or just because it shifted the conversation. I’ll post some of mine below as I go through them. #criticalAI

When I was 12 and worked at a farm for a couple of summer weeks I managed to run myself over with a tractor. Yes you read that right. Complicated but doable.
What's a thing that happened to you that sounds made up? For me it was when I was 20 and I had a job at the Louvre auditorium and former French president Valéry Giscard D'Estaing hit on me in front of his wife

Deleuze may nail an ideational core in Straub-Huillet’s films (rising & resisting voice resonating with what’s buried in the earth, etc.), but Godard captures their sensory, aesthetic core:

I just became Docent / Reader / Associate Professor. A title formality, really, but sort of fun too. And thanks — the more substantive aspect in all this — to the Danish professor for their very encouraging and generous research evaluation.
