"One party only needs 44% of the national popular vote to maintain control over the legislature" sure is a statement about the state of American democracy
If Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act falls, Democrats might need to win the national popular vote by 5 to 6 points to take control of the House, via Nate Cohn

Email just went out from @aoc.bsky.social to her massive email community

- no tacky ask to sign a petition
- no craven and shameless ask donation - not even a donate button

Just laying out plainly how she believes Trump has launched an illegal war and that is grounds for impeachment.

Leader.

Just to be clear, I'm advocating for due process for Kilmar Abrego Garcia
JUST IN: Deputy Assistant to the President and "Counterterrorism Czar" Sebastian Gorka says anyone advocating for due process for Kilmar Abrego Garcia could be viewed as "aiding and abetting a terrorist" and be federally charged. (h/t Philip Germain)

Two Republican judges on the North Carolina Court of Appeals just effectively overturned Justice Allison Riggs' victory over Jefferson Griffin by retroactively nullifying thousands of lawful votes. A massive and outrageous blow to democracy.
Story to come. The topline: If this holds, this would almost assuredly result in an overturned election, as Griffin trails by 734 votes and many of these contested ballots are disproportionately Democrats over Republicans. #ncpol

I really can’t wrap my head around congressional Democrats’ response to the past 12 days of crises. It reeks of pathetic capitulation. Trump is asserting dictatorial powers of absolute control over the entire government and the reaction is “we don’t swing at every pitch”? An appalling abdication.

If President Trump is permitted to carry through with this behavior, without clear censure by the Courts, it would fundamentally damage, if not outright destroy, the government's ability to do much of anything! 🧵

Calling it now: they're going to use ChatGPT (or god forbid Grok) to write the final report and it will be filled with not-immediately-obvious hallucinations.
apparently it’s a blue ribbon commission reporting to the omb director with a set termination date and we’re just calling it a department

I do appreciate how the White House reaction to flailing poll numbers is "just lean into based politics"

SCOTUS reform and rent control? Heck yeah
Breaking news: President Biden is finalizing plans to endorse major changes to the Supreme Court in the coming weeks, including proposals for legislation to establish term limits for the justices and an enforceable ethics code, according to two people briefed on the plans.

Tragic. Just another extremely beneficial pandemic-era benefits program that the feds have swept by the wayside.

I'll never understand why "Secret Congress" didn't extend this for another year+ while states had a chance to implement BEAD era price regulations for service.
