I know scheduling isn't supposed to be important any more, but BBC2 and ITV1 are both currently showing Kelvin Fletcher farming programmes 🤔

Does anyone else have an unexplainable disinterest in watching any drama called "The [some noun]".
It must help more people watch them or they wouldn't do it, but it has the opposite effect on me.

There is a flaw in rugby union where it's better to score four tries and lose by 200 than score three and lose by 8 because you get a bonus point.
I'm surprised there's never been a controversy where a team deliberately conceded tries so they got the ball back in the centre at the restart.

When I was 17 I noticed that it was possible to play a round-robin tournament with one pitch and five teams so that no one played two games in a row. But this is not possible with four teams.
1 v 2
3 v 4
Then you're stuck as you can't play 1 v 2 again and 3 and 4 have just played.

Enjoy it, our brief time. Soon enough it’ll be back to nine months of grey and the other team will be posting ‘thank the Lord, all semblance of cheer has vanished from the air again’.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Apropos of learning it's in financial trouble, one of those weird student things was learning that when people said "vodka revs" they meant Revolutions, even though the word vodka was nowhere on the signage.

Proper "I'm on live TV" moment this morning when I was talking about how well the pope looked and sounded yesterday only for the presenter to interrupt us to announce that the pope, had in fact, just died

Gool Peran lowen. Here's a Cornish fact for St Piran's Day.
Trenja is Cornish for the day after tomorrow.
Godreva is Cornish for the day after the day after tomorrow.

On a similar note, here's a clock near where I work, the church of St Edmund the King. What time did I take this picture?
If you said 11:15, you'd be wrong, because it is running 73 minutes fast.
I am starting to tire of it chiming each hour to tell me a time I know is 73 minutes from being true.

Of course there will be people for whom wfh is right/possible, it isn't one size fits all (and on flip side this debate only applies to part of the workforce who ever have that option). But where i've shifted is making in person working the default feels the least harmful option.

Why is 800g wholemeal bread just so much worse than 400g wholemeal bread? In theory it's the same thing but somehow in practice it's not.

Fair warning, if you're doing dry January you're not allowed to post that really boring, overdone meme about it having 6,184 days on January 29th.

This and the subsequent posts are eloquently put, and match my experience.
At a risk of sounding terrible, I am a thirty-something who recently began dating for the first time and ticks all those boxes - but I'm missing something. My female friends are happy with how I behave on dates (from my reporting, granted), I try to listen > speak etc, but I inspire no interest.

It took me a while to realise that's this what Birmingham Christmas Market is - a huge fake pop-up pub so that the real pubs aren't rammed for the rest of us - we actually need more of these.
So much truth!
My first thought for the pop-up pubs for the cunt buffaloes was “Christmas Markets” - my eyes continue reading and it is the next point made 🤣

Austria, Romania, Bosnia, Cyprus, San Marino all in the same group - at least one of those going to the next world cup. Bosnia in 2014 is the only time this millennium any of those countries have qualified. #uefa #worldcupqualifying

When I lived in Birmingham, someone walking past me in the street would tell me to smile and this would happen quite regularly, say 4 or 5 times a year. Living in London, it has never happened.

Do you think Wasabi (Sushi & Bento) keep their restaurants freezing on purpose so people don't linger and therefore they don't need so much seating space?

People are posting about “losing” Whamaggeddon already so I’m starting #ReverseWhamageddon early; whoever hears it the most wins.
Rules:
A. Only one listen a day on purpose
2. Post a time, location and tally for each listen in the wild
And D) ENJOY IT: it’s a banger and George Michael was a dude.

In 1997, there were 4 Mohammeds born per Muhammad in England and Wales. By 2012 they were roughly equal and by 2023, there were 3 Muhammads per Mohammed.
I'd love to know what's behind this trend. Why has the 'u' spelling become so much more popular?
