More than 20% of households in Legislative District 24 rely on SNAP or cash assistance. Now Republicans are pulling the safety net out from under our hardworking families by taking food off tables and spiking healthcare costs. To say I'm pissed is an understatement.
Here is a quick list of food banks and affordable food options for families in the West Valley who are impacted by Trump’s government shutdown. Whether you're losing SNAP benefits, been furloughed, or want a place to donate/volunteer, I hope this guide is helpful to you.

The Voting Rights Act has done more than perhaps any other statute to build a multiracial democracy

which is precisely why the Supreme Court’s conservative justices have spent decades casting the law as constitutionally unsound

The Conservative Justices Have So Many Ideas For How to Kill the Voting Rights Act
The Republican justices already know where they’re going. They just have to figure out which route they’re going to take to get there.

According to the Medical Examiner's Office, 36 people died after being booked into Maricopa County (Phoenix) jails last year, nine more than the 27 previously reported by the Sheriff's Office. Think about that. A QUARTER of jail deaths were not acknowledged by MCSO last year.

The D stands for dick, a person who no one asked for advice and whose contempt ooze is unmatched.
The Vice President of the United States used his social media page to tell Joy Reid, a private citizen with no connection to the government, that she should express "gratitude" for how this country has treated her.

Black women remain the most consistent targets in all of this.

The president just gathered the highest ranking officers in the military to tell them that he may order them to kill American citizens -- and that they better follow his orders. All in response to a series of crises that have no basis in reality.

I don't know how to yell any louder.

Hegseth fires general officers and JAGs, cracks down on dissenting views in military, orders killing civilians at sea without legal rationale, calls generals to Quantico to demand loyalty.

Trump deploys troops to U.S. cities.

On any given day women make up about 12% of people in the Maricopa County jails.
But in 2024, ten (28%) of 36 people who died in custody were women. Six died from drug OD or withdrawal, two from suicide.
Six have already died in MCSO custody in 2025.
Why?

Kind of surreal that a government official was caught taking a $50,000 cash bribe and there's not even a question that he will continue serving as it nothing ever happened. Like even the most basic standards of public accountability are a joke.

Don't think I've ever felt this embarrassed to be an American. There's shame and anger too. But mostly embarrassment. We're the laughingstock of the developed world. And we should be.

FCC Commissioner: I have never seen the FCC act this way. We are seeing an administration that wields whatever authority it has in order to silence critics, not because they're doing anything illegal, but because they don't like the content of the message. It's unprecedented and it's dangerous.

#ICYMI: Me on Trump's latest request for "emergency" relief from #SCOTUS (on foreign aid impoundment), and how it depends upon an emergency the government manufactured and a claim that DOJ failed to properly preserve below.

In other words, it relies upon the justices not caring about being played:
Bonus 174: Playing the Justices for Fools
President Trump's latest emergency application rests on a contrived procedural emergency and a forfeited substantive claim—apparently banking on the view that the Court doesn't mind being played.

The Department of Homeland Security is asking the Supreme Court to allow it to question anyone who speaks Spanish “to support reasonable suspicion that the person is here illegally.”

This isn’t “common sense,” it’s blatant racism.
