I couldn’t be prouder to have my name officially linked to Stuart Hall, whose work and legacy have been crucial to my becoming the researcher and educator I am.

Why is the Guardian publishing articles about the "scoop" that Farage "was" a Hitler admirer in his youth?

In what fucking parallel universe is that piece of news surprising?

What would truly be surprising is if he didn’t admire Hitler, not only back then, but today.

Bankrolling pedagogies of cruelty.
The majority of the UK media, encouraged by the UK's equality body, is waging a campaign to encourage the public, employers and health providers to harass anyone who doesn't fit their definition of what a woman should look like.

This is what JK Rowling is funding.

The previous years, this has been followed by temperatures of around 12°C in mid-January, in the Alps!

Labour's politics of hatred know no limit.
The UK is considering a policy that would effectively segregate trans people from society. It would bar trans people from "single sex spaces" even when they use the facility of their sex assigned at birth.

This is a full on policy of segregation without even the benefit of separate facilities.

Excellent issue this one here, @thenation.com. I received it this week & read it yesterday. Unfortunately, there is a huge printing error. The last page of @jeetheer.bsky.social's piece on W.F. Buckley Jr (p. 80) is missing, while the last of Lalami's (p. 82) is printed twice. Really a pity.
Fall Books features Matt Duss on the crisis of Democratic foreign policy, Becca Rothfeld on Ingeborg Bachmann, Laila Lalami on the Internet's lost souls, Sarah Chihaya on Susan Choi, Elias Rodriques on James Baldwin, and @jeetheer.bsky.social on William Buckley: www.thenation.com/issue/octobe...

Nativists? You mean white settlers (ergo non-native) descendants?
Bourgeois nativists spend a lot of time pretending their opposition to immigration is about working-class jobs/wages, but show them a society where all the real work is done by foreign guestworkers with fuck all rights and they're like "omg this is paradise"
UAE has no democratically elected institutions, no free speech and an appalling human rights record.

Its economy functions on completely different metrics to the ours & ranks well below us for GDP

No serious person would ever think that we should emulate it.

But here's Tice calling us decadent
