So the Haus der Kunst decided that it would be a good idea to post a row of yiddish words in a stark, san serif font across a minimalist, oppressively designed structure designed by Nazi architect Paul Troost - is anyone surprised that people find this a BIT off-putting?

Fun fact about the real life Dracula, Vlad the Impaler. One time, he invited all the poor, sick, and homeless under his rule to a lavish feast. He then boarded up the doors and lit the room on fire, burning them all to death. When met with outrage, he simply said: "No one will be poor in my realm."

Guinness Book of World Records has Bulgaria as one of the top 4 countries in bread eaten per capita - just behind Turkey (who quite likely got bread from the Bulgarians), Serbia, and Montenegro (all in the same geographic region.) Can any historians tell me why? & why it’s so crucial to the culture?

It appears that there’s a spot on Google maps in Burgas, Bulgaria that is titled, “The Cormorant,” but is in fact, just a log that a cormorant sometimes hangs out on. It gets 5 stars🥲

They don’t allow cameras in Cowtown, the oldest weekly rodeo in the United States - which happens to be in New Jersey, just an hour away from my home in Philly. So I tried my best to capture some of the excitement on my iPhone 🐎

Cowtown Rodeo (the oldest rodeo in America in Salem County, New Jersey) is a machine affair with men riding bulls and bucking broncos. Even the announcer seemed to admit that by far the most talented and fearless performer was this woman riding 4 horses, bareback and barefoot, through rings of fire

One of these pictures is "Alligator Alcatraz." The other is a data center north of Castroville, Texas. Can you tell which one is which?

And better yet, why they look...almost identical?

We should have a larger convo about how companies like American Eagle use beautiful people to add glamor to unglamorous products. In 2023, a young Bangladeshi woman committed suicide at a factory that made American Eagle clothes bc of abuse. This is the cost of cheap, trendy clothes.

This is exactly what I hope! :) When I write a critical review, I almost always still want people to see the show --- just while keeping in mind what it's missing (like Ben Shahn's fabulous New Deal-era murals, for example 😏)
