“This ain’t all of me.” “I know,” Rude had said. “But it’s part of you.” He had worked his fingers into the knots in Reno’s upper arms, easing out the tension in his ropy muscles. Had drawn his hands slowly over Reno’s shoulders. Fingers brushing the edge of his collar bones. Thin, sharp, fragile as bird bones. He slid his right hand up Reno’s neck. Paused again, his fingers wrapped around Reno’s throat. He could feel Reno’s pulse. Sluggish. His breath. Slow and shallow. His eyes were still open, though the lids were heavy. Reno knew what Rude was doing. Reno knew what he wanted. He wanted— He wanted to pull open his rib cage and stuff Reno inside. He wanted to take his hands and jam them into Reno’s mouth, tear it open, crawl down his throat. He wanted to collapse the distance between them, to turn it inside out, to find himself, somehow, part of Reno. Blood and bone and flesh, shame and greed and love, inextricably knotted together. It had been too much. Too big. His body unable to contain it all, the feelings overflowing. His own breath had sped up. Coming faster. Too fast. Carefully, he had slid his hand back down, over Reno’s chest. Soaping over each pink nipple. The divot of each rib. Slowing his breath down, watching Reno’s chest rise and fall, trying to match the rhythm.

This is new information for me, too. It's wild that the person who invented the most common reading education system in the US says point-blank that it doesn't matter if people don't actually read words, but just guess what they are. He says it's fine to see the word "pony" and read it as "horse."
