I like movies a lot. I worry about right-wing extremism. I play and sometimes write tabletop RPGs. I do SRE things but don’t speak for my employer here. I grew up in New England and live with my wife in Seattle. He/his.

Note for tabletop gaming cons: the single best thing you can do to convince me that I want to attend is show me a list of events from previous years. I wanna try games I haven’t played mostly. Show me what I might get!

A Most Wanted Man is underappreciated. Not the best LeCarre adaptation but PSH was born to play a LeCarre protagonist and Nina Hoss is excellent. Take advantage of your local library.

The more serious proposals assert that it’s practical to pass a state law requiring employers to pay taxes into an escrow account. It assumes employers would comply. I am unconvinced. cmarmitage.substack.com/p/experts-sa...
Experts Say Blue States Can Stop Paying Federal Taxes. There’s Precedent
If we could use nullification for people to get high, why can’t we use it to protect human rights and stop fascism?

It was pretty fun. Easy system, enough tactical choice to scratch that itch, and it seems like a fun generic fantasy world. I played Barnacle the frog rogue; we found an excuse to do a fastball special and I got the killing blow on the last skeleton. What more can you ask for?

Friday night: Learn to Play Daggerheart with Briggs GMing and a really generous set of players — I really loved how attentive everyone was towards each other, passing around spotlight, establishing existing PC relationships. Plus I got to learn to play Daggerheart!

Yeah, I got excited, I wrote up notes immediately. Come read about in-game debrief moments, encouraging player agency, and escape rooms designed to teach about misinformation! Thrill to the image of UW professors learning about #TTRPGs via The Quiet Year! popone.innocence.com/archives/202...

Phenomenal #OrcaCon panel: Analog Games for Digital Literacies. A bunch of U Wash folks working on information literacy via gaming, including TTRPGs (currently in development). See lokisloop.org for some of their work; I will write up my notes later.

I think you’ll like it! It’s even definitely a crime movie.

It is at the top of my list of movies that should be much better known.

1915 Italian Futurist criminal cross-dressing adventuress with her own zeppelin. It is amazing if you’re at all prone to that sort of thing.

Okay, the aspect ratio issue creating that excess padding is a unimplemented feature in the command line tool I use. Time to think.

Yeah, that was a flat out murder. I don’t think we know the victim’s name yet, but they’re a hero.
