"A story in which someone resolves that her horrific memories would be in some way necessary in order to help other people, is a sacrificial trope which will likely make some viewers feel very uncomfortable."
Stuk/gemaakt [Broken/Healed] (2025) – 1.5 stars
Director: Richard Dijkema Writer: Richard Dijkema Cast: Carlijn van Rij, Joy Douglas Running time: 45mins Not every filmmaker discloses how much their production costs when they submit a film to Indy Film Library. But of those who do, since 2019, we have given 14 films with a production budget under €10,000 a 4.5 or 5-star review. In the last two years, that has included some really breathtaking projects, like…

Little Bigfoot II: One for the family?
When I was gifted both parts of the Little Bigfoot saga this Christmas, I was expecting a couple of cheap laughs at the movies' expense - and then to move on. But while the first film certainly delivers on that front - the second seems to deliver something completely unexpected: a legitimately funny introduction to B-movie schlock for all the family.

The Last Rehearsal does something wonderful, in trying to shake us out of our frozen state – with the humble reminder that while none of us can dodge death, that’s not what living is anyway.

Something’s wrong with Primate
Primate is one of the worst creature features I have ever seen. Before we get into the 'analysis' segment, I am not mincing words, because I am well aware that the film has a bizarrely inflated critical score on Rotten Tomatoes et al. But whatever the producers did to cow their tame critics on this occasion, you should not let the targeted marketing around this movie tempt you into paying to see it.

Director: Nilram Ranjbar Running time: 2mins Film festivals are expensive – and so they often struggle to break even, let alone make a profit. With submission fees often posing as the only dependable source of revenue that many festivals have access to, that can make granting waivers difficult. Stories told by artists working on a shoe-string budget, or who are hit by censorship, or subjected to international sanctions, still need a platform, though.

Even if Sleep Stalker feels a little rough and ready as Wilson adapts his process to live action, this is still an experiment that is worth a watch in its own right – never mind as part of some greater whole, which I excitedly await.

Sleep Stalker (2026) – 3 stars
Director: Niven Wilson Cast: Nils Wilson Running time: 4mins Niven Wilson’s second return to Indy Film Library will divide opinion. Those who have seen his last two efforts will probably say that’s on-brand. But while Don’t Shoot the President and Eat the Rich were experimental, Sleep Stalker walks a fine line between experimental filmmaking, and experimenting with filmmaking. Making a film as a proof of concept – or even simply as the testing ground of one particular idea you might want to flesh out later – is a risky business.

Glock '45 will leave you grinning in spite of yourself; becoming increasingly invested in the jamming sessions which eventually yield the film’s climactic song; and rooting for the ensemble cast of artists and eccentrics that make up the band.

Glock ’45: The Movie – 4 stars
Director: Lisa Hukker Running time: 33mins Glock ’45: The Movie is a film of contradictions. It sets out to peel back the layers of a hyper-theatrical country-satire outfit to tell the story of the people behind it; but leaves a host of important questions unanswered – or often unasked. It pledges to examine the moments when friendship and ambition clash; while ultimately presenting a frictionless world, where a potentially controversial musical act face only the most minimal of pushback.

Two, three, many Messiahs: Avatar: Fire and Ash challenges us to participate in our own salvation
Reviews for the latest outing of James Cameron’s blockbusting franchise have been unkind – and perhaps say more about the critics than the film itself. If you liked parts one, and two, part three will still leave you longing for Pandora – and judging by the box office figures, that’s still a huge number of people. The Avatar franchise now accounts for three films, spanning 18 years, and raking in more than $7 billion in global box office receipts along the way – which is impressive, if you are into that sort of thing.

#TheBoneTemple is a good (not great) payoff to the set-ups from #28YearsLater. It lacks some of the invention and ambition of the first part, and couldn't work as a standalone in the same way. But still, the series is in a good place!

Relevé (2025) – 3.5 stars
Directors: Will Gorski & Annsley Helenhouse Running time: 11mins Relevé is the fourth film submitted to Indy Film Library, where Will Gorski has been involved. Alongside We Are Denver North, it is also the second documentary he has helmed – and what is becoming clear is that this medium suits him best.
