Not just appropriate, but *essential* that the Senate not continue funding the deadly status quo allowing killing with impunity and that it stops surrendering its power of the purse.
In the wake of another horrific shooting death in MN by federal immigration officers -on top of wrongful detentions, violence, & fear there & across the country- it is appropriate for the Senate to use the budget process to push for critical protections for people & communities.

This week, the Trump administration announced plans to reinstate the “public charge” rule, which is designed to scare immigrants away from seeking public assistance, including help from SNAP.

We opposed this rule in 2019, and we will continue to fight this harmful proposal every step of the way.

Now, we must keep the pressure up to make sure the Trump administration drops this unconscionable appeal and immediately releases SNAP contingency funds.

Private planes make up nearly 12% of all flights.

And yet even with major air traffic control safety concerns, the DOT is planning to exclude them from its plan to order 10% cut in flights at 40 major U.S. airports.

People who can afford to charter flights will be fine. Everyone else is screwed.

The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

Historical perspective on Virginia election results-

Abigail Spanberger is on track to win by the largest margin of any Democratic candidate for Governor since 1961, before the integration-era party realignment.

Democrats will win their largest House of Delegates majority since 1987.

A BIG night.

i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.
