I read a lot of that Amodei essay you linked to, and I think it makes the case that a lot of the DOGE data and knowledge destruction (e.g. decades-long clinical trials) is tragically limiting the potential returns to AI.

Yeah I wouldn’t have said 3 months ago that it’d be possible for his approval to reach W 2008 levels, but I didn’t count on him to be this stupid.
(Also, W had a bit of a cult following too there for a while, and we remember how that turned out.)

Been traveling this week (mostly Pittsburgh) and the Garcia/El Salvador story is coming up all the time. Main topic at Dem town halls/campaign events, I'm overhearing people talking about it at cafes, etc.
There's a DC CW that Dems should pivot to some issue that polls better. Not their choice imo

The thing is it’s impossible to square the need to pardon your family out of fear of a lawless president with the need to attend his inauguration to preserve democratic norms. If you have to do the former there no longer are democratic norms.

I think “more successful politically” is almost a guarantee… I do not think it is possible for him to leave office with a sub-30% approval rating, no matter what.
I also think not as bad substantively is also a very live possibility.
