Fibre-optic cables (also used for internet) can be used as a novel means of continuous measurements of #forest #microclimate in space and over time, at 25-cm spatial and 1-minute temporal resolution

It's been ages since I last saw a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker in the UK. When I lived in Norfolk, they used to be a bird you’d just bump into from time to time. Sobering to see how quickly they're vanishing from our landscapes though. Really should look for one sometime while I have the chance
