North Carolina has great renewable offshore wind energy resources. I hope this lawsuit is able to help push through the roadblocks the current administration has erected.

Here's my 2025 Weather & Climate summary for coastal North and South Carolina. www.weather.gov/ilm/2025clim... Highlights were the big January snow, Tropical Storm Chantal, and an unusually cool 2nd half of the year that knocked the annual average temp to the lowest in the past 11 years #ncwx #scwx

Future historians, wondering how and why the United States embraced corruption and insanity, will undoubtedly read Heather Cox Richardson's daily reports for answers. But I hope they also read Dave Barry's Year In Review: davebarry.substack.com/p/the-year-i...

Went birdwatching in the Wrightsville Beach saltmarshes this afternoon. Some highlights included a banded American Oystercatcher (dark green band EMY), Snowy Egrets, Tricolored Herons, and more Dunlin than I could count. Mostly cloudy with temps in the lower 60s.

CBS paid the president of the United States millions in bribe money and now they censor news reports so it does not annoy him. I don’t know how much plainer we can put this.

Really interesting look at the tools used by BBC meteorologists a generation ago. Start the video around 2:15 for the good stuff.
Absolutely wild video from 1985 about how the BBC was, at that time, computerising its weather broadcasts.

The most fascinating part is to see Apple Lisas being used for actual work with what appears to be custom weather software.

Spent a few hours kayaking Smith Creek here in Wilmington today. The brushy areas were filled with sparrows, and the first winter ducks have shown up too.

My winter climate outlook for eastern North and South Carolina. La Nina tends to bring drier than normal conditions and drought. Alaska ridging and easterly stratospheric wind could bring arctic outbreaks this far south too, but the winter overall may run warmer than normal.

I've had a missile blow up next to my airplane, been shot at dozens of times by anti-aircraft fire, and launched into orbit — all for my country. I never thought I'd see a President call for my execution.

Trump doesn’t understand the Constitution, and we're all less safe for it.

Here's a nice outlook from the NC Climate Office on expectations for this coming winter. The one item I'd add is the persistent warm blob in the North Pacific Ocean that may help create anomalous ridging near Alaska, a good teleconnection for Arctic outbreaks across the eastern U.S.

38 days working without pay and our nation's air traffic system is breaking down before our eyes. "Staffing triggers" is FAA-speak for where flights are being curtailed because there aren't enough controllers to safely handle the workload. This list will grow.
