The Phaistos Disc - side A. The disc is a circular clay tablet, appearing to be terracotta or fired clay with a brown/reddish-brown color. The disc is mounted on a display stand with metal supports holding it upright for viewing. The disc is covered with stamped symbols arranged in a distinctive spiral pattern that winds from the outer edge toward the center. The symbols are organized into distinct groups or "words" separated by vertical lines that create wedge-shaped divisions radiating from the center. Been thinking on the use of GenAi for mood boards. Ethics and legal risks aside, I truly believe using GenAi as references deprives one of many pivotal things.

Here’s a blurb on what I mean:
Some thoughts: When using GenAi as a mood board you don't get sources. This means you deprive yourself from knowledge. You generated a location? You deprived yourself of knowing more about the interesting parts of the world and why things came to be. Generate an armor or costume? You deprived yourself on real world techniques, function, form and history. You generated art inspirations? You deprive yourself of learning about artists from history or lock out living ones from potentially being hired. Ethical issues of using GenAi models aside, one ends up making visuals mood boards devoid of reality and history. With it one deprives themselves from learning about our world and who is living in it, inadvertently making your work weaker, because of how detached it is from our shared human reality and history.

I was 14 years old when my local librarian suggested this book to me. It quickly became my favorite book! I've read it three times and have a couple different copies, each one so enjoyable. I've never found anything quite like it.

I'm a little way into "Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell", and finding it absolutely delightful, and HIGHLY original.

It has the magic of medieval folk songs, set in 19th century England, & has a style that reminds me of an English Jack Vance at his very best.

Recommended if you want something novel.
