Some of the early USS Cerritos concept art was pretty wild.
The USS Cerritos as a Galaxy-class with replaced nacelles and covered in green goo. (I assume the goo wouldn't have been a permanent feature!) Much closer to final version of the Cerritos Six really fun pencil sketches of out-of-the-box Cerritos designs, the first of which appears to have been the winner. The Cerritos was heavily damaged in a dogfight & was forced to return to Federation space…without the away team.

Captain Freeman & Mariner aren’t about to sit around & wait when they have a team to rescue—especially one under Boimler’s command.

Someone suggested that the shell kernel/carrier exocomp name format is an elaborate way to say 'nut sack' and now I can't imagine it any other way. 😂 'Walnut Dresser' is kind of logical, though.
