This Amazon scraping shopify news is so blatantly illegal and shouldn't take an opt out email. I don't know if this would do anything and it'd have no effect if the scraping is happening another way (or if Amazon doesn't respect robots.txt), but I blocked their crawler. Get off our site

FYI I learned BigCartel has an "AI Shield" setting which I just turned on. This prevents training bot crawlers, but it may not stop the type of scraping Amazon is probably doing. So not sure it will hep but worth a try.

This needs to get into the fanart communities stat: it looks like Shopify is the connection to this Amazon "Buy For Me" debacle, which could really hurt a lot of folks who sell fan works on their personal site. Type your company name into Amazon search right away (and maybe update your sites, too)

Update: I emailed the opt-out address listed on their website and got a reply. But, I never. Should. Have. Had. To. Opt. Out. I’m so tired of these tech companies & their entitlement. DoorDash putting small restaurants on their apps w/o permission, AI scraping our sites, & now this? It’s exhausting

Also, Amazon's got the capital to offer discounts on your products (even if they're paying you full price for them) in order to capture your customers. If they can do that enough, eventually Amazon would be your ONLY customer, and then they control your business.
