this doesn't hold water at all because people had morbius'd themselves into being excited for the game by the time it came out. it had a massive day one. that fell apart because the game, on a very basic level, did not function, and you had spent so much money on it that you couldn't afford that

get the inconvenient piercing you thought about as a teenager. get a silly revolver from the games you used to play instead of a normal handgun. style your hair like the people you'd look at in awe. we forget about that stuff, or sometimes are embarassed by it, but it was formative, it runs deep
embarassingly im just thinking about this because i was playing with my fight stick. loved fighting games as a kid, and also grew up playing arcade games on my uncle's MAME cabinet, loved the feel of a stick. nowadays playing on stick is just straight up suboptimal, but it makes a younger me happy
